We aren’t helping the situation. He’s already extremely pissed off and wants to punch this guys face off and honestly that won’t get him anywhere but thrown in jail with heavy fines and probably back on the surgical table for his shoulder. Calm heads prevail.
Catch more bees with honey. Take a few days to get your blood pressure back down and see what the issue was before figuring out course of action. We all make mistakes and sounds like this dude is spread thin and rushing jobs just to get on to the next one. That’s no excuse but being calm and collective to figure out the diagnosis is what needs to happen now. Then find out what needs to be done to rectify the situation is second. Explaining that you’ve been friends for 8 years and you value his skills and trust him to do what’s right is probably gonna get this solved faster than screaming and dropping F bombs. He can easily say it was from the machine shop or the used engine and not take any responsibility and bow out of it altogether. Then it goes to the next shop where it costs more money out of pocket and if that shop says it was from the first mechanic it turns into a small claims case and all this turns into years of aggravation and heart ache.
Your doing the right thing brother. Stay proactive but not over reacting. By giving this douchbag a few days to think about what he did wrong might work in your favor and if he has any morals or dignity he will make this right and do it in a timely fashion. You have enough on your plate right now to be getting worked up over something you can’t control. You trusted this guy and were friends with him for a reason. Let’s see if he values that friendship as much as you did. Hope this has a good ending, I’m pulling for ya bud.

I wasn’t saying to punch him or scream f-bombs at him but just not be so nice. Maybe let him know you’re really angry and expect this to get done now, not in another 6 months. Sometimes you have to be assertive in order to get things done. The way I see it, this guy didn’t work on it for MONTHS when it was an easier job, now it’s worse and he really is in for a lot more work so what’s going to get him to do it? Like I said, squeaky wheel. I would be down at his shop every couple of days until he starts back up on it, just pleading or making him a bit uncomfortable so he wants you out of there- that might encourage him to work on it. Anything but nothing. If you do nothing, I doubt he will either. This is after you cool down, like when he gets back from Florida.

I wasn’t singling anyone out and believe me, my first reaction was, burn this guys shop to the ******* ground! Get to make insurance claim on the Hoe and **** this dude up all with one match. And it’s not even my truck. So I get where everyone was coming from. Fast and temporary satisfaction is not as rewarding as it may seem. I’ve had plenty of those moments and the police record to prove it. I’ve calmed down a lot after 35, I think about 8 years ago was my last violent explosion that caused a lot of self inflicted hardship that almost cost me my kids and my freedom. Thankfully I’ve always been able to plea out of felonies or else I wouldn’t be able to hold my current job.
Point is, I’m usually the last one to be the voice of reason. But I’ve also learned a lot from being the hot head with a short temper. I learned people tend to punch back when being punched at and I don’t heal as fast as I once did. Besides that I have skin graphs that cover my hands from being burned alive back in 05 and I’ve beaten them off my hands twice since then and that shit hurts.
I stand by what I said to just try and get this truck back up and running. At least let’s find out what this guy says before we all head to NJ for a group beat down so Tony can have a alibi.

I was really tempted to call him today. I've calmed down some--but not enough to be reasonable. I'm still going to wait til Monday. I'll probably go talk to him face to face, better then talking on a phone. I have serious issues with my temper, and it's only getting worse the older I get--which isn't good since old age is a *****.
Years ago working in prison, I did carry an off duty, and I had no problem pulling it out--which I did. Thankfully(I guess) I no longer have any guns--not by choice tho. So my point being is--I get REAL STUPID when I lose my temper, and I can't afford to do that anymore. It just comes down to--I just want my truck back. I'm not asking for more then what I paid for. I don't want to make enemies or even lose a "friend". This month is 1 year since the truck has been down. I'm gonna try to be reasonable--and be the voice of reason, and I can't do that being a maniac. My gf has told me on many occassions that I "black out". I'm not bragging about this, but I just want everyone to know why I need to calm down 1st. So.....I need to take a deep breath, calm down and let it ride until Monday. Thx for being the voice of reason and confirming to me that I do need to wait a little bit. Also thx to everyone else for putting themselves in my place and feeling my anger, pain and frustration of what I'm dealing with and going through. Right on to all my TYF brothers!!!!
I love the camaraderie here. Hopefully one day we can all meet up face to face--tell jokes, war stories and just laugh with each other. Love you guys--NO HOMO

The older I get, and now that I'm on blood pressure meds at the ripe ol age of 33, I (I'm working on it) have realized that getting worked up things that you can't change, does no good. I still get worked up over things but I'm trying to limit that. IMO, call around, find another shop. Have a back up plan for when you go down there. The guy has to feel bad about the whole thing or he isn't a human. If he can't the truck together, load it up and take it to another shop. Pulling a motor, refreshing it, and putting it back in shouldn't take very long. Hell, Dub had his out in a day IIRC.

Good on you for keeping a cool head, especially with that shoulder. No need for two things to be messed up over this person.

Outside looking in is always easier to have opinions on what we should do. Its not always easy from inside looking out. I hope you get a solution thats fair and you get back on the road sooner, rather than later.
