I did an oil change on my 2007 gmc delanli with a 6.2 and treads came out with the drain plug. What is the best way to fix this? I had to run to the parts store and put in a rubber plug to hold me over until I am able to fix it right. Do you recommend replacing the pan or taping out and putting in a new drain plug?

I used both of these to get me by until I got the pan replaced. I am not a big fan of drilling an tapping an oil pan on the vehicle. I be afraid of not getting all the aluminum shavings out.

I used this first, my ass was puckered driving with it but it did it's job.

Then I came across this:

You can get the next size up oversized drain plug... They actually come in two or three sizes oversize at most part stores....but... I would just replace the oil pan. Gives you the excuse to do the o-ring on the oil pickup tube.

Yikes! I've never done that, but the products @89Suburban are good to know about.

Was that drain bolt overtorqued? Who changed the oil last? May be worthwhile to invest in a torque wrench if you are the blame. The only times I've had oil drain plug overtorqued, it was when I used to take my vehicles to shops for oil changes. Stopped doing that like 10 years ago.

I once struggled to remove the drain plug on my 99 Silverado 4L60e. Bolt head was rounded over from who knows who (between the dealer, my mechanic and the local Pennzoil oil change place that had done ATF replacements in the past?) I tried vice grips, those bolt head extractors, and a bunch of cussing. After 2 days of trying, I was done messing with that, so I dragged my stick welder and welded a big 'ol 3/4" nut on the SOB, under the truck and in the overhead position. Luckily I didn't burn the truck down or myself, and out came the bolt.
