So I pull the trigger today for an XL SLT fully loaded(pro 8/16)
Got it down to $59,500 + tax.
Now what should been an easy transaction. Price, Taxes and Fees
He came with PO and his BS...
Some how $62,909 + tax - rebate came alone. I said wtf is this?
Oh hhhhhhh! He said is the law I have to tax the vehicle before the rebate. At this point I knew he was hurting(Is a cash deal) and he was trying to squeeze me for everything he could. $295 extra
After I left the dealership I called a couple of my buddies(car salesmen)
Both of them said. He got you for that extra $295.
So! for future buyers becareful!
I need the truck so I just took one for the team. Is the ONLY truck that is exactly what I want. I been taking Ubers for the past few days and ain't cheap.
P.S. when I take delivery tomorrow I will let him know about his BS!

Actually it does vary according to different states ie some do collect full tax before the rebate

What he said. Different states have different rules on applying rebates and tax.

I just looked up my old purchased order for my 2007 yukon and with a trade in + rebate. It looks like I only pay taxes after all the discounts, rebate and trade.

GMMillwright thanks for helping me out with that discount.
That's exactly how it looks like on my PO from 2008 when I got the 07 Yukon.
I don't know if the laws have changed but is just the principal of the way they do things.
I was around dealerships for about 8 years. I used to be a Car Audio & Security installer back in the 90s
So I know what goes on behind the scene with these ruthless/heartless car salesmen.
$295 ain't going to break me...

I could be wrong. I'll stay quite because I'm not sure at this point.

Just bought a suburban last month in NJ and the tax was calculated before the GM cash back was applied. Just did a Google search and it looks like the rules vary by state.

California the sales tax is before the rebates are applied. Which is pretty ****** the state makes the most money on a car sale lol
