tahoe has no low end power?

I have a 2003 tahoe it doesn't have traction control, the only thing it has done to it is factory 3:73's and 285 tires and a flowmaster. When I take off it feels really sluggish but once I start to get moving it feels like it gets alot faster. I'm wondering if it's just like that because of it being heavy or because of some kind of torque management. For example my buddy has a 2002 silverado extended cab all factory, from a stop he beats me by a couple car lengths but from a 30 mph roll I stay about a fender in front of him. Both trucks have 5.3s

what rear end does he have 3.43 or 3.73
and wich trannys do you guys have 4l60E's
a truck is gonna be a tad faster simply becuase an epmty bed doesnt weigh much
yer a few hundred lbs heavier
make sure yer gas tanks have same amount of gas and tell him throw about 6 50 lb sand bags in the bag of his truck then go see if you guys run equal

and even if u didnt have traction control it wouldnt have an affect
traction control doesnt turn on unless you break the tires loose or try to
