Does Stabilitrak improve 4WD traction in conjunction with the open front differential? Will it brake the spinning wheel allowing the one with traction to grab? I have seen videos showing quite a bit of wheel spin on slick off road surfaces.

I don’t expect to do much off road but would like to understand exactly how all of the traction control stuff works together in case I do get stuck.

if you get stuck just pull the abs fuse and power thru it. the abs light will go on but will go out as soon as the fuse is replaced.
4lo if equipped should disable traction control, but if not pulling the abs fuse will.
other tips-
1. don't get stuck
2. lower the tire pressure to 5psi
3. turn your wheels side to side
4, use whatever is around you to your advantage.
if you think you might go somewhere where you might get stuck, use common sense and bring some basic recovery equipment with you.

The Traction Control System activates if it senses that any of the drive wheels are spinning or beginning to lose traction. When this happens, the traction system applies the brakes to the spinning wheels and reduces engine power to limit wheel spin. Real world off-road conditions can overwhelm this nanny and the ability to turn it off makes a big difference. I watched a ram truck drop a rhib into a river and when it tried to climb out of the water you could see the nanny in action (it couldn’t get out, you could see the wheels spin then cut engine power, then repeat.)

The StabiliTrak/Electronic Stability Control system activates when the vehicle senses a difference between the intended path and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling. The stability control system selectively applies
braking pressure to any one of the vehicle wheel brakes to assist the driver in keeping the vehicle on the intended path. Cruise control disengages if the traction or stability control system begins to limit wheel spin.

It may be necessary to turn the Traction Control System off if the vehicle gets stuck in sand, mud, ice, or snow. When the transfer case is in Four-Wheel Drive Low, the Traction Control System and StabiliTrak/Electronic Stability Control system are automatically disabled

The electronic locking rear differential makes a big difference on off roading trips as well. This video shows an eaton locker (like the g80’s gm used for years) making a huge difference over limited slip differentials

Does StabiliTrak improve 4WD traction in conjunction with the open front differential?
Traction Control / Stability Control do not 'improve' anything, they RECOVER traction AFTER it has been lost - response times have drastically improved, but
Traction Control responds to one wheel spinning too much faster or too much slower than the others.
Stability Control does this too, adding steering wheel angle and yaw rate to the comparison matrix.

There are odd edge cases I wonder about ...
If the steering wheel is fully turned in either direction, and you add a little too much throttle,
it's PROBABLY the Traction Control (not the Stability Control) intervening, right?

If the steering wheel is straight ahead, and a mighty crosswind threatens to make the vehicle change lanes,
it'd be the Stability Control intervening, right?
