I seen that "kit" before but IMO its two regular 14" fans side by side. But maybe im wrong. Mind you I paid 40 bucks for my 14" fan. Like stated you need to check what size core you have if you have 34" core you need 2-16" fans which will mean better airflow.

Im not too knowledgeable with E-fans on these trucks so please take this for whatever its worth. IMO all you should need is two 14" fans side by side monted on the radiator with the plastic ties. Thou I would love to spend 400 or 500 for a nice flexalite settup I think you can get away for under 100 bucks including the relay and supplies. (wire, loom, crimps, etc).

If I ever get this a/c working im gonna try and do this myself. Good luck!

The "34 core is $260ish on ebay if I remember correctly. I'll have to do it one of these days. Right now, I have bigger fish to fry. I'm going to put some freon w/dye in it this weekend and find out there the leak is.

You don't need anything fancy.

I run two 16"generic ebay fans with no shroud and they work just fine. I've beenmonitoring my water temps like a hawk. This is my first summer with this setup. I'm happy to say,that it works just fine. No sudden temp pikes. Keeps things cool with ac on max at idle in 30c(100f)+ ambient temps.

In all honesty, I don't know why everyone doesn't do them. It's simple and reliable and there's enough guys here to help anyone out. :Handshake:

EDIT: HERE's another case of a guys saying 'man, it's full kit or nothing man...'.. Again, I say, come drive my truck...you won't find a difference. And I saved hundreds of $$$...sigh.


EDIT2: Sorry for sounding cross... I'm not against spending money, but I like to spend it smartly. Take the $$$ you saved by not buying the expensive kit and buy UnderDrive pulleys instead to install while your in there installing the E-fans. The total $$$ spent may come out to the same as buying the kit, but you'll get more bang for your buck. and more HP will be freed up. Again I apologize for comming across as a dick.

I run 5000CFM. The flex-a-lite kit runs 5500CFM.
I couldn't find data for a recommendation. Just what guys are talking about.

I was a bit worried that mine was missing it's 500CFM as per the $$$ kits. but in practice 5000CFM seems to be enough.

I don't think I would go lower than that though.

For you guys that run 2- 16" fans with no shrouds.......you are only cooling 2/3rds of the radiator.

Length x width of the radiator in square inches vs square inches of both 16" fans and you will see that a shroud will give you 1/3 more cooling area.

I had 2 fans on my 93, then built a custom shroud and mounted the same fans on it and it never got over 180 ever AC on full blast in 115F. In NV, AZ, NM, TX I would say run a shroud.

i ran that same red fan kit from ebay on my cherokee when i had it, it came with 3 10 inch fans and i had one wired up normally with the stock e fan for the ac and all and the other 2 came on with the ignition but also with a switch for the winter cause it would be too cold lol, they worked great but it would have been alot better with a shroud, i ended up putting my stock clutch fan back in before i sold it and it still ran about the same temp, maybe a little warmer, next time i would spend the money on the flex a lite kit with the shroud

The Shroud is important too.

Do not ignore the importance of the shroud.

I have recently replaced a Perma-Cool setup that had a motor fail, with a Flex-a-lite setup. I had run the Perma Cool for 3-4 years.

They both have the same basic CFM specs, but I now realize that the Flex-a-lite has twice the cooling power of the Perma Cool because of the tight shroud that controls air flow.

The Perma-Cool had it’s fans close to the radiator, but no shroud containing the air flow.

The Flex-a-lite has a tight fitting shroud that it molded with soft seals that make a tight fit against the radiator. Even though the fans are further away from the radiator, than the Perma Cool, they really pull the air through.

I can actually feel the breeze outside the grill of the air rushing in.

When I switch to manual, it will take the engine down to the thermostat temp in a very short time, even in 95 degree weather. :)

Which flexalite settup did you go with? You mean to tell me you feal a vacuum outside the grill? Wow! Good stuff....

Ha, you should put some pushers between the lower end of rad and front of engine and have the hot air exit thru a double cowled hood.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. I think I will see how this new air flow works for a while before changing anything. I’m still trying to keep this tahoe looking stock.

There has never been a problem if I’m moving, just sitting in gridlock seems to be a bit of a issue……..

Yeah because there is no airflow thru there or maybe air is too hot. You do have the filters right near the rad air exit. Perhaps inter-coolers.

Holy shit! Nice pic, know I understand what the TT means in your username! Have any quarter mile #'s? What are your 60' times?
