Lesson learned, never ever buy a car that is dirty or in my case covered in salt in the middle of winter.
As soon as I had a chance to wash it, I noticed a bunch of little specs of rust at the bottom of the doors and the front fenders and even the quarter panels, so I had a plan for the fenders, repair the rust and then apply Z71 fender flares.
Sanded with 120 grit, then 220, treated the metal, self etching primer, filler primer and then Rustoleum black paint, honestly it turned out better than I had expected and since I live on dirt roads, this vehicle is practically always covered in some sort of mud and dust so the perfect finish was not at all a concern of mine.
Once I am content with the rust control fender flares will be mounted, likely in the coming week.
