Rough Ride, out of ideas...

Hey guys, first time poster here at TYF. Great board.

I have an 03 Yukon and it rides rough as hell. Any bump in the road creates a shudder/vibration effect that sounds awful and drives me nuts. Close to 100k on her now, but she's been very well maintained, just put a set of bilstein hd's on a couple of weeks back hoping to address the 'shuddering' issues when I hit the smallest bump in the road. The billsteins seem to be riding the exact same as the old stockers I took off. I have 20" Silverado SS's on a set of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenzas and am running tire pressure at around 32 psi.

I've ridden in similar trucks with the same wheel size, and mine rides much rougher than some of the others....my buddy's tahoe is running 22's and even his seems to ride better. Any ideas on what I could be missing?

is it lowered?
checked wheel balance?
bushings?

I don't know if riding on the bump stops would do that, but check that out? Also, are you feeling it in the steering wheel or the whole truck? If it's just in the wheel, it's probably just the shaft needs lubrication. Issue on all of our Hoes.

what about your torsion keys? If those are turned all the way up then itll supposedly ride like shit but I really wouldnt know myself. just what ive heard.

Not lowered, stock height. Shudder is felt all over, glasses rattle in the cup holder and all that fun stuff.

Wheels are balanced, didn't think about the bump stops though....that could very well be the culprit.

How much of a difference in ride would you notice from bad bumpstops when going over bumps/potholes?

It is probably your Intermediate Steering shaft... There was a recall a while back.

I referred to that in my earlier post, but he feels it throughout the whole truck.

Sounds like control arm bushings and/or your steering components(pitman arm, idler arm, idler pivot assembly, upper/lower balljoints). I run a lower profile tire @ 40psi with bilsteins dropped 5" and it's smooth. Take it to a trusted shop and have them shake it down, bet it's the front end I had to replace mine at 100k. Hope you don't have to replace the balljoints because it's necessary to do the whole control arm most of the time.

I seen your post about your Tahoe riding harsh. I was wondering if you ever was able to figure out what the problem was. I have a suburban that has begun riding exactly how you described your tahoe (cups rattling in the holders and all that stuff). I'd really appreciate any info you could pass along.

I too am having this issue. Alignment shop says nothing is lose up front...truck shakes harsh at speeds above 65. Tires have all been balanced and same issue. Im running 20" BBS rims, but do not have the hubcentric rings. Wondering if it might simply be I need those?

Hey smurphy80. Did you ever figure out your vibration problem? I'm also running 20" BBS wheels with hubcentric rings and I get a bad shake around 65 mph.

If you get a shake at high speed balance your wheels...

I have bilstein hd's on my truck. they ride smooth but they are a bit harsh.
