Installing rocker switches in a '04 Suburban. Looking for a power source for the switch backlights that will activate automatically with the rest of the dash lights, Thanks.
A lot of people go for the easy option of tapping a splice into one of the ignition wires in the steering column.
That is easy, but definitely NOT advisable. Too many chances of problems, especially when a problems come up with no-crank and/or no-start.
Some non-critical accessory circuit would definitely be a better and safer option. @NoClue97 provided one option that would work.
If there is still a cigarette lighter or AC power outlet, that is another good option.
There are a few electrical wizards on this forum, so I'll ask a question of them to see what they recommend...
If the power feed to the rocker switch is coming from a line that is energized when ignition is on, could the low amp LED wires to light up the rocker switch be tied in to the same fused connection feeding power to the switch and the other LED wire go to ground?
