MAybe this is common knowledge but it has been driving me crazy for two days. I'm installing two headrest monitors. I'm looking to tie into the retained power that the radio and other accessories use after the key is off. however i can't find a 12v source. I have heard there is a plug somewhere but am unable to locate. A picture would be nice. all the threads I'v seem have a pic but its x'd out. Is there a source in the fuse box I can tap off of? If RAP isn't a possibility where is an easy place to tap off accessory power. Trying to avoid the steering column. Any advise woulld be helpful. thanks

When I installed my overhead monitor, the vendor told me to use the fuse box under the hood. I, being hard headed, just ran mine to the 12v source on the passenger side dash panel next to the glove compartment between the dash and the passenger side door. There were some wires in there so I just found a 12v source. I have to remember to turn it off when the car is off though or it will drain the battery so needless to say when I install my head unit I will be re-locating that wire to the 12v acc on the back of the radio.

See that is the problem. There is not 12v acc on the back of the radio. It only has constant power. It is turned on and off by a bus signal wire. (not 12v) I think I may have figured it out but may need to use a relay. I'll post if it works.

Fuse 49 is switched... Get one of those "add-a-fuse" things, run a wire from the add a fuse to the headrest monitors

EDIT: Just an FYI it is the thermometer/compass on the rearview mirror... it worked in both an 07 Tahoe and 08 Yukon... I just kept a constant 12v on for my radar on an 09 Denali

That would be the logical way right? But no, the radio has unswitched power. Like I said, fuse 49

Thanks for the tip fuse 49 worked great ran wires hooked it up everythign worked like a charm now if the deck was as easy

I might try and switch the homelink or whatever to being switched... a little bit more secure so at least acc power needs to be on

sorry but where is fuse 49? I have a 2010 Yukon, and took the panel off the driver side. All I see over there are mini fuses that goes from number 1-26. My rearview mirror doesn't have thermometer/compass. Thanks for any helps, but I am also looking for a switched fuse so that I can have my rear monitors turn off when I exit the car. Well I lookjed in my hood today, and notice that I have nothing as far as a fuse in the #49 slot. Guess will have to keep looking.

I used one of the plugs underneath the black cover by the brake pedal and spliced off of a wire on one of the connecters...can't remember exactly which one. I used the "Add an amp DIY" post to get power for my amp and my Valentine 1.

Thanks FuzzyChopz, I was going to check there next. I purchased a "Add an fuse" piece and was testing every single fuse on the side panel in the vehicle. Can you believe every one of them is powered when the key is out. Going to go into that black box next, hope I find one that I can use.

Yup I found out the same thing. Its so weird that all of them retain power while the key is out and the vehicle is off. I'm not sure how to add links to a post but I got the information from this website for the accessory 12v. Just try searching "add an amp" or look in the DIY section, I know its in there somewhere.

Well with the add-a-fuse you can make it up to 15 for the extra fuse, but stock I think it's the red one (I believe that's 10)

I'm talking about the fusebox under the hood. I think that a LOT of those are switched

Alright got everything to work somewhat the way I want it to now. The only bad news that I have so far is I ran a wire through the firewall near the cluster of wires on the driver side to the fuse box in the engine compartment. In the process of doing so I managed to snag a small purp wire and cut it in 2. Man was it a pain in the ass to try to connect it back together, but I managed to solder the 2 pieces together and superglued it down. Hopefully I won't get any issues with that being cut. Now all I have to do is figure out which fuse to use, as I have said previously I do not have any fuse at all at the "49" slot. It is on the list in the diagram as CHMSL (15A), but no 15A fuse in the location.

Do you have the RSE fuse? Or compass? I used the 49 fuse which was compass on an 07 Tahoe and 08 Yukon before they moved the compass to the DIC

No compass fuse, I do have a compass, but it is in the DIC. Not sure what an RSE fuse is, will have to check on that one. I have it hooked up now so that I would have turn the key all the way forward before starting the vehicle to get the headrest monitors to play. Still looking for a fuse that let me turn the key just once to get it to turn on.
