Got airbag codes from the tech 2 last week and some were related to the front impact sensor. 04 esky ESV rolled into the riverside yard and I figured I’d hit the yard and grab its impact sensors. They were gone. Dang it. But lucked out and another 04 shorty esky had sensors intact. Grabbed em. 53 bucks with warranties a piece wasn’t too bad. Not sure if they work though. They’re in and getting them in and out wasn’t bad. Grabbed a ratcheting wrench that made that job easier. The codes directly related to those sensors haven’t shown up but it’s showing these two codes a displaying service air bag across the cluster screen. Photos of the esky sensors and the codes thrown after those got swapped. Weird…..

Deployment commanded? Sounds like the Tech2 thinks the airbags went off.....?

Apparently the truck thinks there should have been airbag deployment lol. I mean what would cause it to think that if no airbags actually deployed?

Yeah scary for sure. Thankfully this one isn’t going to affect my mountains but we had our turn all of September when both the big bear AND wrightwood mountains were on fire with the line and bridge fires. Over 100,000 acres burned between those too fires alone. That really sucked.

Was the battery disconnected for the change or since the sensors were changed? Can you reset those codes with the Tech 2 or are they permanent codes?

I unplugged the battery before swapping the front impact sensors. The codes related to those front impact sensors have not returned however the two codes related to deployment have not gone away with the battery being unplugged and the tech 2 is not clearing those. Nor is it turning off the airbag light or clearing the service airbag warning on the DIC.

Did you hit something or drive over something that was in the road? Could've hit one of the sensors.

Are any of them bulging at all? Since they're exposed to harsh weather all the time they're susceptible to internal damage.

Any chance you still have one of these? I probably do - just need to find 'em. Give me a day or 2.

I haven’t hit anything thankfully. Our roads are pretty jacked up with potholes right now because the city of big bear lake has been majorly slacking in upkeep but I’m pretty particular and go around them as much as possible. I know where they all are at this point haha. Like driving a slalom course

However the sensors were used out of a 2004 Escalade so it is possible one or the other is faulty. They don’t appear to be out of shape or anything from the looking at them. They look identical to the old ones I pulled out. But internally it’s very possible they’re no good. I may make another junkyard run and grab another set. OEM are close to $300 a pop right now and new aftermarket ar eject as much. So gotta do junkyard parts for now in a budget. I did grab warranties on the sensors off the Escalade so I can return them and experiment with another set. Just gotta get an afternoon off to get back down there.

Are these sensors the same part number that shows up for your truck? There are multiple sensors which are calibrated differently. The shop manual says that SIR components that have been dropped from a height of 31.5 inches or greater ought to be discarded as they may not work properly anymore.

I paid $99 for one in 2021 and $149 for the other in 2024!

Are these sensors the same part number that shows up for your truck? There are multiple sensors which are calibrated differently. The shop manual says that SIR components that have been dropped from a height of 31.5 inches or greater ought to be discarded as they may not work properly anymore.

I paid $99 for one in 2021 and $149 for the other in 2024!

They’re identical exterior wise and part number wise to the ones that came out. Not sure if the numbers above the bar code match up. Maybe that’s why they are not solving the issue.

Got lots to update on. It’s been a weird week with truck issues.

Alrighty so the lower for t end of the engine block has had an oil leak for a bit. Pisssy about oil leaking after all the money I spent over the previous years getting all the top end of the engine sealed up plus the rear main seal and the oil, the pickup tube and ring inside the pan and what not. I’ve known for a bit that my oil cooler lines have probably been a culprit. I’ve attempted replacing them three times now and every time I think I have the right tools on hand to get it done and I STILL GET STUCK!!! Ugh….. I’ve finally decided nope it’s going to the mechanic next door to my gym. He’s a good guy and I’ll use him when I run into something that I either don’t have the time or the skills to tackle on and he always does a good job and takes cares of it the right way for me. So Friday I’m gonna drop off the Nali to him to get the cooler lined swapped out. At any rate this has lead to a couple other projects to think about.
