hey yall question for everyone i’m trying to figure out why my rear vents for the back seat doesn’t work if i turn on the rear hvac system you can hear it blowing from the third row vents but the 4 that are directly behind the driver and passenger seat don’t blow any air at all. anyone dealt with this before tried all setting on the front hvac system and rear hvac system to no avail.

probably the up/down actuator (blend door)
reach down at the floor vents and see if it is coming out there instead
i don’t feel it coming out the lower vents for the rear seat it’s only blowing out the third row vents
That's all there is for the rear when it is on floor (down), when it is on (up) then it comes out all of the rear roof vents.
so.... the actuator is stuck.
a oem one is around $100 or maybe more, a dorman will work fine in this case and is probably around $60-65
takes about 20-30 minutes to replace
if you are not trying to spend that much money you can grab one out of any 00-06 junkyard gm suv.
here is a often referenced video for "how to" only in his video he is doing the hot/cold actuator, you are going to do the same thing but at the Y where the up/down split is, circled in my picture below. you will need a 5.5mm socket to remove the 2 or 3 bolts that hold it in.
actuator is stuck or the control is fubar, most likely just stuck
Tell us your year, make, and model. Something like this could be different between a shorty and an XL. Put your vehicle info in your signature so it's always there.
Are you saying that "some" of the HVAC vents in the headliner put out air (the 3rd row ones), but others (the 2nd row) don't? If so, that sounds like a vent has come apart in the headliner, but that's just a guess based on not much info.

You might need both of those actuators then easy to get in there and check visually/manually
it’s a 2004 gmc yukon and after doing some further looking it only
blows out the floor vents for the third row it doesn’t blow out the roof vents at all for the second or third row even when it’s set to blow out the top. also the rear a/c doesn’t get cold idk if there due to the same issue or not
Where is the controls in the back seat set.
If that control is not set to auto you can not control it from the front.

Get a scan tool on it and pull the BCM codes for that, no more guessing. Sometimes rodents find their way up into the roof and block air ducts with nesting materials too.
Probably just time for new actuators and a check of the refrigerant.

Has the vehicle ever been hail damaged or otherwise had the headliner dropped? Sounds like venting wasn’t properly reconnected. I had the same problem in my 2013 Tahoe.

BY FAR AND WIDE, the most common reason is actuator failure................
secondary reason is controller failure, 3rd is rear module failure
after that it boils down to being clogged up
the blend door being busted is least common, but happens
thankfully there are TON'S of these in the junkyards
