Rear lift gate malfunctioning

hey guys so I have a 07 Tahoe ltz and a while back my rear liftgate stopped closing with the button, it would close halfway and open back up, maybe the sensors- I let it go- I'm not that lazy that I can't just shut the hatch manually- but now the thing won't even open!!!! It starts to open about 5 inches then slams back down?! Any ideas? Is this a huge deal to replace or fix ?

This sounds like the lift struts need to be replaced. There are quite a few threads on how to fix. It is not hard or very expensive.
