I have my rear apart trying to do bearings and seals. I have the parts on hand ready to install but can’t seem to figure out what this part is. I would like to replace it while I’m in here but can’t find any info on what it’s called or anything online that even looks like it for me to find a name for it and look locally. Please help I would really love to get this think back together.

Interesting, I am stumped.
This whole rear has been interesting. I know nothing about rears but learning a lot right now. I’m in this position because the ring gear bolts all sheared off. Lol. Don’t ask me how, I’ve only owned and drove the truck for a few months after I did a afm delete. All gears looked perfect so carrier is all back together with new ring bolts and bearings just trying to take care of the axles parts while I’m in here. Truck has a lot of miles and I’m thinking someone was in there before and did something dumb.

Is that the end of the axle housing we're looking at? It could be a seal or bearing.

It is the end of the axle with the seal and bearing already removed. Which means it would be another seal or bearing?

To me it looks like an ABS ring they are around 50 a piece. You can look at your particular axle on GM parts direct website. Here is a pic of whatone looks like .
What model truck/year do you have?

Is this something that should be changed while I’m in there? If so do you guys know how to remove it? Slide hammer? Or should I be using a long pipe and knocking it towards center of rear to get out?
