without them inspecting it yet I did a ton of research last night and I have come to the conclusion that it was the infamous GM Gov-Lok that shattered
too many one wheel burnouts and it tried engaging so it broke
it was pretty scary getting it to the shop today

getting the Eaton Posi LSD and 4.56 gears all for around $1100
should be done tomorrow

I just can't wait until I hit that 500 mile mark, replace the fluid and smash on it :D

going to be a big difference from stock 3.73's

my gov-lock?
...OH! you mean my grenade lock haha!!!
yeah it did they said it was pretty messed up when they took the cover off

and $1100 was a quote I got before they looked at it

they called right before they closed to confirm what they need to do tomorrow and it will be right around $1600 for the Eaton Posi and gears

this better be worth it!

JFC are they replacing the housing or something? I had a guy drop off his avalanche and we're rebuilding it with 4.10s and a trutrac for about $1200 otd. Should run quite a bit quicker off the line once they install everything tho

well I forgot the breakdown of what went in but I can try to remember parts and what not

upon inspection.. positraction snapped, pinion teeth rough, metal in housing, and at the bottom of the pumpkin, and a couple other things messed up

they installed..
GM Eaton Positraction $595
4.56 Ring and Pinion $295
all the seals, bearings, and necessary install mumbo jumbo
Labor $340

grand total of $1625.80

I went in and paid $700 today but they are starting storage fees which will be $25 a day

I hate working on minimum wage
might have to start selling some stuff realllllly quick

I think the 4.56s were too steep. If the work isnt done yet, get them to swap for 4.30s. Which is the perfect gear for street. You will get tired of reving 3k rpm to do 70mph... (just appx) In city will be sweet, but hwy will get old.

My 3.73s with vmax engine on dubs does 73mph @ 1999 rpm. My truck is geared more for touring and street.

they have been done.. they were the day after I dropped it off
problem is I didn't have the money

I don't mind the highway RPM's I'm sure my blackbear tune will take care of that ;)

but I don't do that much highway driving anyways.. my work is 3 miles down the road and I drive mainly city so its going to be fun, I'm stoked to get it back but somehow finding $1k is going to be tough :(

4.10's are good for street/hwy, and 4.56's are the best ratio (i think) why?? because its an even raio for off-roading and street/hwy. but those 4.56's are kind of big for those lil tires u have kasey, 4.56's i believe best tire would be 35's just my 2cents.

4.56s will run great with that size tire, I plan on doing the same gear on my truck just to get this big ***** out of the hole and I'm running 30.5" tall tires.

is everyone forgetting that JK is running 4.56's with the same size tire and he actually increased MPG?

They're just scared, pay them no mind you're shit will come out of the hole fast as hell with the new gears....just be sure to keep it easy for the first 500 miles and change the fluids before you go racing hondas.

I'm curious to know how you like the 456's and how it affects mileage.(your stock 5.3 right?) im wanting to get a tune and gears and have been going back and forth between 430's / 456's. I also read jk's thread and just would like to hear more first hand experience

I have not got my tahoe back yet.. its still at the shop due to the fact that I didn't have enough to pay for it

I have the stock 5.3L but I've done small upgrades..
swiss cheese mod, exhaust cut at the muffler, and a BlackBear tune

once I get my tahoe back I'll give a good review on how I like the gears on the highway, around the city, MPG difference and how much overall fun it is compared to stock lol :D

getting it back tomorrow but I will have to let all the bearings break in first before I can give an accurate review ;)

I'm going to probably take it home on the freeway just to see what it is like and then obviously back in town from red lights feel the difference

don't worry sean I'm good at giving detailed reviews

I remember before I brought it to the diff shop I was considering which gears to get and I was trying to get some first hand info from reading JK's thread but it didn't say much especially since he's got a SC 6.0L with all the other goodies

the diff shop suggested I go with the OEM 4.11 gears but really if you think about it its not THAT much of a difference
plus when I am paying as much money as I am I want to notice a difference and I want to notice it right away
$1700 should not be a subtle difference haha!
