Hey guys, so I recently replaced the pinion seal for the rear diff and after driving the truck maybe 10mi back and forth to the alignment shop I noticed that I was still leaking some diff fluid. I had the shop go ahead a replace it again because maybe I messed it up somehow but no luck and its still leaking a little bit. They told me that I need to rebuild the rear because it has some slop in it causing it to leak. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and just want your opinion on if this is something i should do? Whether get a used axle and throw it in there or go ahead and just rebuild it myself? Thanks in advance!

Not hard to do with some special tools and a press. Just read some guides before you begin and get after it. I dont 100% buy their diagnosis however.

Well hopefully you replaced the seal with a driver tool and did not tap in with a hammer and damage the seal. Also, hope you reinstall the yoke correctly and did not damage the seal. Also, the yoke sealing surface can have a groove that is where the new seal surface rides on and is not sealing properly because of the groove. That would require a new yoke or can get a seal saver kit and install a new sleeve for a new sealing surface for the seal and if you do that you should install another new seal. Also, if you have never done gear replacement and shimming I would never recommend doing it without an experienced person to oversee or have them do because it is not that easy and can get costly real quick. Or you can just assume and keep throwing parts at it. Good luck.
