Currently I'm in the market for a new to me SUV. Originally I was looking for a clean 03-06 Yukon Denali but prices for those are a little unreasonable. I came upon a 2007 Chevy Tahoe Z71. The vehicle is in pretty good condition (to be 10 years old). It has some scratches, the body molding on the passenger side is faded and there's some minor rusting underneath. Other than that she's mint, the inside looks like it's never been sat in. No creases or cracks in the leather and the carpets are immaculate. It seems like it's fully loaded, the only thing I notice missing is a sunroof. It has 111k miles and the dealer is asking $15,700 for it and doesn't seem like they wanna budge. I offered 15,700 OTD and they countered with 16,700 OTD. I expect they'll be calling me back today though, they seemed eager to move it. I'm basing my price on the fact the truck is clean but it has an accident on the Car Fax (from 2011). Does this truck seem like a good deal or am I'm paying too much for it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it's a 4x4, that price sounds about par for the course in my area; maybe even a little low. I regularly see LT 4x4s with 120-140k miles at around the 16k price point. Since this is a Z71 with leather, I'd say it's a good deal. Does it have navigation? Power liftgate? Those will add a tiny bit of value also.

Yes it's a 4x4. From what I can tell it seems fully loaded. It has 2 tone leather seats, heated seats, nav, back up camera, and rear seat entertainment. I'm not 100% sure on the power lift gate. It's a beautiful truck.

Truecar.com has a used section now. Cargurus.com is another good one that also 'rates' the asking price and tells you how long it's been listed on their site.

Three years ago, 07 Tahoes were in the 17-18K range for similar miles, so it sounds like you are paying a bit extra because of it being a "Z71" at a dealership. With an accident on the carfax, the value is immediately lower as you know. For me, having anything more that surface rust on the frame is a non-starter. Personally, if there was any such thing as "typical rust for it's age", then every one ever built and still on the road would have rust in the exact same spot.

If you are trading a vehicle in to get it. Make sure that you work the out the final price for the Tahoe before you let them appraise and make an offer on your turn in. Keep the deals separate, and you may not lose as much.

Thanks for taking the time to respond in detail. I went ahead and bought the truck last night. I was able to get it for 15k OTD and they even did a pre owned car inspection and fixed the problems they saw. They did the serpentine belt, replaced a cracked air intake, replaced a leaking axle and replaced blown lights.

I got her home and she drove great. I was hearing a noise on the front end and couldn't figure it out. Come to find out the previous owner left a DVD in the radio and I was hearing it load up. Other than that, all is good.

Sweet score man! I paid that price for my 2006 Denali xl not quite 2 years ago. So I'm jealous! Look forward to seeing pics!

Here's a couple pics from before I picked her up. I originally set out looking for an 05-06 Denali but the prices for them were all over the place. This one literally popped up outta no where on CarGurus. I'm still getting used to everything but the one upgrade I know is coming is the radio. I already ordered a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX but I really want the Alpine X009-GM, just don't know if I can justify the price tag.

^she's a beauty!! I love the red! And that two tone leather interior is on point! Looks good man! Yeah the alpine units are a nice upgrade but pretty pricey! The Pioneer units are pretty good these days. Any other plans for mods?

Pricing for cars/trucks can vary considerably by region due mainly to buyer preferences.
But that deal sounds great.

Enjoy.

Got my windows tinted last night.... ended up doing 15% on the front 2. Overall the truck isn't as dark as I'd like. I may go back later and have the factory tinted windows done. Also, I picked up a new radio to try and bring this truck up to date. It's the Pioneer 4200NEX, although I really want the Alpine X009-GM. It just seems the Alpine is a little outdated for what they're asking for it.

Hopefully I can get this installed this weekend.

Thats the first Z71 I seen without the captains seat but I prefer the bench anyway. That two tone is freaking awesome man! I didnt even know that was an option! Car looks sexy. I definitely want to upgrade to a better navi as well but definitely recommend something that can be easily upgraded. In my area, there so many changes so frequently, my Navi is too outdated to use with confidence all the time.

I read that somewhere on here but then I saw this truck later that night lol. I would have rather had the captains seats bc I wanted to put a sub enclosure between them. But it wasn't a big enough no for me to turn this truck down. And yea the Nav is the first thing to go, I hate not having bluetooth or USB.

I was a fan of 20% up front with 30% on top of the factory tinted rear windows.

Moving away from the Factory nav is a good idea. There were things about it that were nice features, but overall, and especially for nav, it sucked.

I can't post in the Classifieds yet... but if anyone is or knows someone looking to get rid of their Alpine X009-GM please let me know. I've found a few on CL but no one wants to ship it. Thanks!
