Grab a SouthWest flight to Bakersfield, SLO, LAX, or BUR, all of those areas just south of you are MSRP, no markup, and you will save thousands with a $99 flight and some fuel.
Years ago I almost bought a hard to find Corvette Zo7 in California, I am in Florida. They had one of 2 in the country with that spec at the time. The dealer told me i could purchase and ship to Fla with no issue. BUT if i wanted to fly in and do the deal and drive home, I had to pay california sales tax first which was not reimbursed or credited when I titled it in Fla!!! So double sales tax to drive it home. I was thankful i did all the numbers with the sales guy and he caught that. Cancelled the deal and bought the only other one in Ga, and drove home. IDK if that is still the case, but something to consider. I have bought in several other states and never had that issue come up, sales tax was paid in Fla at time of title and registration.
That's weird. I purchased a vehicle out of state too. Dealership just charged me the sale taxes of my state of resident.
Yeah that's never been how it works. You pay the tax for the state it's getting registered in. Sounds like they were clueless.
He was commenting in Sacramento the markups were $7,500 to $15,000 over MSRP. The cities I listed are in the same state as Sacramento. A vehicle purchased in California by a California Resident is charged sales tax according to the buyers address, not the dealerships. Some states have reciprocal agreements for sales tax. The selling dealer should know if your state has an agreement or not.
In think everyone agrees, sales tax will be based on where you title your ride. The only “agreement” would be who/when collects the tax for the titling county/state. The rate is fixed by the titling state/county which means, no deals to be had. Some states have sales tax for the selling price minus your trade, only if the vehicle you are purchasing has never been titled. Buying a used $75k ride with a $70k trade in still gets popped tax on $75k in Ohio.
I replied because the post was dealers in Sacramento are charging $7,500 to $15,000 over MSRP, dealers just south of the poster in the same state do not charge over MSRP. I suggested they go to a dealer a bit south and pay MSRP, no markup, a $99 flight will save them thousands. I am not sure how you can be taxed on a dealer markup above MSRP that doesn't exist where you purchase the vehicle at.
Totally agree, I was just letting folks know what the going rate was for new, in SAC.
Define MSRP. On my 2021 Denali window sticker they show the MSRP before adding the $12k Ultimate Package. They then show a Total Vehicle Price with the added options (all factory options). I purchased mine for $7k below total price, but that was over 2 years ago.
