please help asap with LPP LTs

the car is in the shop now, and the mech says he cant install because they will rub a lot on the steering shaft. what can be done? thanks

+ on this as i stated on my thread and when you pm me, nothing a little bang can do to make them fit, i had to heat up my up to the point were they were red and beat the shit out of them on the transmission cross member to make them fit to stop them from rattling

its stock height. so you are saying that i have to deform the header itself (not the y pipe) to get it to fit? what kind of a design is that? the mech said that its the right one for the model, but it may be a factory defect. i tried contacting LPP, but no ****** phone number and no email response yet

i just spoke with the mechanic, and he said that its too much to be bent out. he said its almost 2 inches too far over. im gonna have to exchange them with LPP for another set if they'd ever get back to me

somethings wrong if it's 2" out...a little ding can be common to make small adjustments. I'd never fear a little ding, but 2", somethings wrong.

my LPPs are close, and almost touch the frame, but like any other headers on other vehicles, its always the same. Ive even seen some indented with a little nipple from stock to clear spark plug ratchets etc.

A) you have the wrong header for your application
B) your shop is going about installing them incorrectly. [its easiest and almost a must to install from the bottom, then slide them in position!]

i was reading on other forums that my motor mounts might be bad. i was gonna see if the engine moves a lot when revved later today when i get a chance. i know they are really expensive to replace, and i wouldnt really want to do it unless i was sure it would make the headers fit.

muffler shops should be able to customize anything

tell him take a hammer to the number 1 primary. and MAKE it fit. Looks like plenty of room to me bro.

I mean its people who use car headers on trucks and vice versa.
Check the motor mounts, and make sure your engine is not moving or leaning to that 1 particular side. If its good, then I suggest finessing that header and making it work.

my buddy bought some $800 Kooks headers for his Mustang, made for the AFR heads...after we attemped to put them on, passenger side had to have a custom fab guy do another $400 to make them fit...talk about ticked!

Ill go snap some pics of my clearance for him. But yea headers can be a real pain in the arse to get fitted at first, but I have had good luck, if you use the header for the right application.

the steering shaft was bending when the header was on. it wasnt just sitting against it. he said that it was nearly 2" too far over to fit. i opened the hood and revved the engine and it didnt move barely at all, so i dont know if its the mounts... are there any slimmer steering shafts i could buy to fit on? is it safe to grind down the shaft?

No, do not grind the shaft, wonder if they sent you NNBS headers by accident?

ok, well the clearance is tight on mines, and I did not have to bang or beat anything. So you have a issue here. I am able to still slide my car keys in between my steering shaft and header primary.

Was the frame damaged or altered in anyway? your steering shaft is the same, as mine, and mine is also a 01. I did break my steering shaft, so be careful, but a used one from a 99 at the junkyard to fit it perfect.

i dont believe the frame was altered at all. the shop i was at was an exhaust shop. im gonna take it to my normal guy tomorrow who said he could get an engine mount and take a look to see if its leaning and how it would compare to a new engine mount. im really hoping the engine is leaning because i really want these headers to fit!!!

thanks for all the pics everyone. like i said, tomorrow im gonna go see my normal mechanic and see what he thinks about them. maybe he can fix it and put the headers on as well. im really hoping that he can spot a problem and fix it. if these end up not working, im gonna see if LPP will let me exchange them (with money back to me) for their racing shorty headers. they should fit exactly where the stock manifolds were right? i know long tubes are much better, but some extra HP is better than no extra HP right? i was gonna do a cat delete with the shorties as well
