How well do those kits work? I’ve seen them all over but not seen or heard any real world results.
Anyone know if poly bushing are made for direct replacement? I’ve been lookin at replacing these but most options have been from places like febest and Dorman.

I got a service contract to replace our OE rack with a reman AC Delco rack on our 08 Denali. It sucked. The mount tab to the frame brick off and it whined 24/7 until a hi grade fluid w/ conditioner was installed.

Keep the original rack in as long as possible and use the kit posted to take up the slack caused by the OE bushing going bad due to petroleum contamination.

Yes they do work and yes they are easy to install.

Your play is likely in the steering column if you can actually feel the play in the steering wheel. I've replaced the steering column in many of these trucks. The coupler for the tilt is a plastic joint and it will get worn. If you slide a screw driver through the intermediate shaft where it comes through the firewall and put tension on it you can wiggle the steering wheel with your other hand and see if you feel play.

I dont agree with easy to install. I did mine last night and if your not working on a lift and have the right tools I wouldn't attempt it. The bushing goes on very very tight, I had to use a very large crow bar against the frame with a combination of wacking with a sledge to get it on. I only took one pic because I remember someone asking how to get the bushing in the bracket. It was tough i was so frustrated I even broke one of the 18mm bolts. Then the rack has to drop to put on the other bracket because the diff is in the way and even then you have to really wedge around to get it on..

I’m surprised you got it on. After an hour of cussing and hurting my hand, I gave up.

Yea, I'll take changing the motor mounts over this one any day. For the first hour I was certain it would never go on. I went and got some emery cloth and cleaned the rack as smooth as possible then gave it a go again with a 4 foot crow bar.

Did it shave off any of the material getting it on? When I noticed the pieces of the bushing being shaved off I just stopped and figured this bushing was molded slightly wrong or something. I didn't try a pry bar or anything but I did take the inner tie-rod off and tried to use a dead blow hammer but access wasn't good.

Just wondering exactly what you all are seeing / feeling when deciding to change this bushing? I kinda feel something resonating up theough the steering wheel. Hard to describe exactly what it feels like other than i feel something "bumpy" After reading some of the threads on here I went out this am, slid under tahoe and had wife turn the wheel. As she turns the wheel, i can see the rack has side to side motion. Since there is a bushing on the passenger side and not hard mounted (through bushings) on driver's side, i assume this is somewhat normal. Is the movement you all are seeing, up and down? Or should I not see any movement of the rack? I would assume no. Thanks.....

No shaving on mine I had it pretty greased up once I had it on the first nub flush I would wack the bottom of the mount with the sledge then use the crow to level out the top. So far the bushing just feels like a new bushing. I'm not sure if the headache of getting this on is worth changing a regular one every year or so. I'll update as I go. I have changed my rack several times over the years so this is just another trial and error.

BTW I'm not sure if I mentioned but I snapped one of the 18mm bolts and spent a long time getting it out. Anyone know the torque specs for these bolts?

You have a link? Would like to see it

I have seen a shop in CA make a pretty slick billet bushing/mount kit for our racks. Takes all the play out but, its pretty expensive.

Very cool, simple enough to. How thick was the material that you used?
I'll have to get under there and get some dimensions and whip one up for myself.

I think they are TTY bolts and should be replaced.
