I’m assuming since throwing all of those parts at the 0442 that you don’t know what the problem stemmed from? I’ve been working on the same code on a 2003 and nothing has worked. I performed the drive cycles inbetween each replacement part and 3 months later past my tag expiration I’m still trying to figure it out. The code is permanently stored now.

At this point I will have to get the tools and smoke test it but testimonies like yours doesn’t have me looking forward to spending so much more time and money on it.

One interesting item: when I was working on it one night I opened the cap on the plastic pipe that connects to the under hood purge valve. I noticed the stem valve inside and it was unscrewed all of the way and just hanging there inside. I screwed it in tight and thought for sure I had found my problem. Yet not.

All new purge valves and solenoids. New evap canister. New fuel tank pressure sensor. Fuel pump is maybe 1 year old. So as I said I’m at the point of having to smoke test the system. Unless anyone recognizes something else i haven’t looked at.

I have also replaced the knock sensors and wiring about 3 months ago and replaced the intake gaskets. I thought that I had a vac leak because sometimes the engine doesn’t crank right away like it used to and also sometimes at idle I can see the engine bogging down with the AC compressor cycling.

Someone told me that these symptoms are my AC compressor about to take a $hit but she is still going strong. Ever since before the evap code I’ve been experiencing the hard starts and bogging down. So now I’m inclined to think this is a symptom of the evap system because that’s the only code that I’m dealing with.

Truck serviced about 2 years ago with Delco spark plugs and ig wires. I’ve put a couple of pcv valves in it as well.

What the hell is wrong with this truck??

Do you have a Tech-2 or similar for diagnostics?

My P0442 eventually became a P0455 and it was the rubber hoses to the vent valve under the truck. The new hoses are plastic and don't rot. Mine also repeatedly passed the smoke tests.

I bought a smoke machine, come on over and you can use it.
