Well, now we need an entire new deck. I had already bought the lumber to retop it but now I need another 300 bucks worth of crap. Oh well, life goes on.

That project could be an all summer ordeal depending on how big your deck is.....

Awesome deal I gave $800 for just a cab a few years ago. I hope to get the frame done this year but I say this every year lol. Good luck on the build I will definitely watch this one.

Yeah...materials for that are really expensive right now and that obviously cuts into your 'fun money' very quickly!

It is just a big pile of crap in the driveway now. The deck was ****** to begin with, but we are going to more than double the size of it. I already drew the plans out and know how much I need of everything, now if I can only figure out how to work that damn saw.

J/k, I know how to work it, wood just inst my thing.

 so THAT'S why it's turned into a $2k job! :D It'll be worth it. I hate having a small deck and built mine bigger as well. I like to have room out there when we have company and are grilling. :)

Well the deck has turned into me hiring someone to do it. I just have way to much going on to even tackle it right now. The deck plans changed along the way as well, went from about 500 sq ft to 200. I can live with that though.

Lumber is really high here. Just for the 200 sg ft deck it almost 1k worth of lumber.

Yeah I hear ya. Last summer I put a new porch on the front of my house. I did it myself and just for materials for that I think it was $800 and I don't think that porch is anywhere near 200 sq feet! :D It's pretty ridiculous....

Well the deck is mostly done! My original plans got shot to shit pretty quick, a few water lines were in the way, so it ended up being 10ft x 19ft 8 inches. All I have left to do now is the pickets for the stairs and some lattice around the bottom.

But with a new deck comes a new grill!

And before anyone says anything, yes I know my house needs to be painted.

we changed our patio last year from a small 10X12 builder size patio to a 25x12 for next to FREEEEEE :)

craigslist.

i was patient. found a lady who was doing a major overhaul and i went and got two pickup loads full (and i mean full- poor lifted tundra was sitting on the bump stops) of paver stones. knew i was gonna need some sand and base material. i piled the pavers in the back yard till i could get around to it. low and behold, i got free gravel from, you guessed it, CL from someone who overordered and then wound up getting free sand from someone else who overordered. we wound up taking about 3 weeks to gather the materials, and i went and got half a pickup load of sand i had to buy but the rest of the materials were all free. was a huge pain in the butt- im never doing a paver patio again. EVER. but it looks really nice. and to top it off, i got a new grill at the same time. for free hahaha. i went to get a swing set from a guy for the kiddos (again free) he had this grill he said he was scared of. it was 6 months old, and shot flames out of the knob. he couldnt find the paperwork so he rolled it to the side and got a new one. if anyone knows anything about a gas grill, the venturi tubes are common to get spiders in...yup. thats all it was. i cleaned it out and its been working just fine since then. i hate to sound white trash by picking up garbage haha but my back yard consists of a large wooden play fort with slide and tire swings (tires for free from discount tire- just ask for the trash ones ), small metal swing set with a new paint job, a free hot tub that works great, looks awesome, and the new owners to a house didnt want it, and of course the free patio. we did buy some used patio furniture - large table and 6 chairs for one end, and a loveseat and two chairs for the "sitting area" on the other end.

anyway, didnt mean to hijakc, just wanted to share that my truck mod budget didnt take a hit hahaha. :p

now i need to find a good deal on a project truck like yours....

TwinRotor,

Great buy on the truck. I had a '53 5-Window I rodded. I just threw in a 350 w/ 350 tranny & rear, lowered, rims, paint & mustang 2 front end. These engines/trannies are everywhere, so parts are cheap and its easy to suppe up. Mine wasn't rat rodded, but I'm going to live vicariously through you on this build. (I love the look of ratting these trucks and in retrospect, should have done that to mine) I sold the truck 6 or 7 years ago, but to this day it is still the vehicle I enjoyed the most.

Best of luck!
