Last but not least. Choice of positive cable attachment. Inside/under the battery box or at the jumper connection?

I would connect the positive cable from the second battery to the same place where the positive cable from the first battery is attached. (In my case, it was the main fusible link on the passenger side firewall.).

The second battery install is all done. The disconnects are right at the second battery. The battery is the 2 year O'Reilly's Super Start and used 5 foot of positive and negative 6 AWG cable and tied off. The positive cable is attached at the Jump Start snap shut positive cable box and the negative is attached with another ground cable at an engine bracket. Tied off at the firewall and protected with 5' convoluted tubing for each cable.

Only concern I have, is not what some of you are thinking about the 6 gauge wire. It is fine for the charging and will keep the battery up to s*n*u*f*f for running off of if needed.
To disconnect, have to loosen the green knobs. When I do that, the knobs will vibrate loose and fall out, over time. If I remove knobs completely, the disconnect mating can fall apart. Need a way to loosen and disconnect and not fall out. Or, take completely out and keep them disconnected without squeezing tight enough to reconnect. Thoughts?

When I used those type of disconnects before the knobs always stopped like the threads or stud on the back side were staked or mushroomed.

That was what I expected, too. But both unthread easily. I may just rig something like what you talked about.
They tighten easily and loosen easily. I will look tomorrow the see if has enough thread on backside to booger the threads.
