Hello,
I have decided I would like to sell my 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe (Z71 edition) since it’s not fitting my lifestyle and I live in the city. I was hoping people with knowledge/experience of the market for these cars could offer input on where/who to sell to and what to be aware of so I can ensure I am getting a reasonable deal. Part of me wants to avoid the hassle sell it to the Chevrolet dealer who has sent me letters in the past expressing interest in buying it. Another part of me believes I might get a better deal by advertising on Facebook marketplace or somewhere similar and seeing what people are willing to pay.
Here are some quick facts:
•Purchased in 2021 at 98,000mi, currently has ~151,000mi
•Was almost certainly garaged its entire life by previous owners based on its condition. I have kept it garaged for about 2.5 of the last 4 years.
•Exterior paint and interior leather and trim are both in excellent condition (9/10 I would say). The only wear is a small tear/wrinkling in the driver side seat cushion and one small area on the roof where paint started chipping.
•No signs of rusting so far on underside of vehicle or on the exterior
•Maintenance performed:
-Oil changes every 5k
-Replaced alternator with original GM alternator in 2025
-Front wheel bearings replaced in 2025
-Have had various brakes rotors and pads replaced over the last 4 years, maybe more often than I would have liked. I’m not sure if they were replaced before I purchased the car.
-I had the brake lines inspected for rust a couple years ago for safety reasons, and the mechanics said they looked quite new and were probably replaced by the previous owner of the car.
•Defects:
-the Bose 6 Disc changer ate my CD when I first bought the car and I haven’t gotten it to work since.
-the A/C stopped blowing cold this summer for the first time and I just haven’t gotten around to having it checked out or worked on.
-As I mentioned there were more brake repairs over the past 4 years than I would have liked
-The small patch of exterior paint chipping that I mentioned and the minor wear on the driver seat cushion
Overall, the engine has performed fantastic and all other cosmetic/interior features of the car that I have not mentioned are in good working order.
I have been told I could get $6000-$8000 for a vehicle like this considering its age, body style and condition.
I’m wondering if this estimate is accurate, and secondly, if I am likely to get much more money selling it privately. I would like to avoid the hassle but am willing to do so if it could get me a significantly better deal.
Thanks.
