I just bought an '07 tahoe (as some of you know) and I went to change the oil today. Everything was going fine until I went to put on the new filter. I had a Napa Gold 1042 (what the Napa book said to get). It wouldn't go on for the life of me. I thought I was doing something wrong, so I tried the old filter back on. It went on smooth. So I kept trying the NAPA one. Nothing. Couldn't get it started on the screw. I figured I just had a defective filter. Went to wally world (close by) and got an AC Delco 10060. Got home. Exact same thing. WTF!?!?!?! I spent an hour under that thing trying to get either filter on. Finally just put the old one back on (microguard MGL10060).

Am I insane? Stupid? Doing something wrong?

I guess I'm the only one.......

Just want to point out I'm very seasoned at changing oil. Done it hundreds of times on dozens of different cars. This is the first time I've encountered something like this.

Maybe there is something wrong with the threaded stud that the filter screws on to? but then why would the old filter fit right on? I've double and tripple checked that I got the "correct" filters from the books.

I can't speak for the tahoe but the trailblazer SS i had changed the filter threads they used from 06 to 07. An 06 filter would not fit on a 07 trailblazer.

Have you tried a different band filter, or just the Napa one? Maybe Napa just screwed up with their filters?

They dont differ.

I'm going insane. Perhaps my 07 just has a funky bur on the threaded oil filter post or something.

The NAPA Gold for an 07 with a 5.3 is 7060.
