I know I'm posting on GMC forum but I figured they have same engines.

I have a 2015 Suburban LT with 7,*** miles and I noticed the oil level is on the low side. I took it to the dealership and the SA said "it's normal for these V8 engines to consume oil. " I was scratching my head!

I had an 07 Suburban that needed a new engine due to oil consumption at 68,*** miles. The second engine was going bad at 120,*** miles.

Is the first statement true?

Thanks

It's normal for all engines to consume at least some oil. It depends on what the manufacturer considers acceptable - some say 1 quart every 1,000-2,000, others say 1 quart every 5,000.

Newer cars take lighter oils (like 0W20 or 5W20), which make for better gas mileage - but engines burn through it quicker than the heavier weights. I'd keep an eye on it just to be sure, but I wouldn't lose too much sleep.
