Hi guys. I'm not exactly new, I've just been gone a while. Some of you already know me. Im ScottyBoy, I have a 2001 Suburban with a few mods, but nothing too major.
I've been gone off pretty much all forums for the past six months. I got a promotion at work, but that also greatly increased my workload and hours that I work each week. So that has taken up most of my free time.
On top of that, in January my wife was told by her doctors that she needs to stop working for good. My wife is disabled, she was diagnosed with Huntington's disease back in 2012. HD is a rare neurological disorder that affects your brain. It will affect your mood, memory, and it can make you depressed or sometimes even have violent outbursts. It also affects your muscles. It can can involuntary movements or shaking, kind of like someone with Parkinson's.!Look up some videos on YouTube of people with HD, it's some pretty bad stuff. The worst part is that there is no cure. Doctors can only give medications to somewhat control the symptoms. It's a genetic disease, so it's inherited. My wife's mother has it and she is getting bad also. Once we found out my mother in law had it, that's when we got my wife tested, and the test came back positive.
This is a very horrible disease that destroys entire families. There is a 50% chance that my kids have it as well. But there is no point getting them tested right now, because symptoms usually don't even appear until at least your 30's. And the fact that there is no cure. It will just stress us out if they were positive, because there is absolutely NOTHING that we can do about it. The doctors all say to wait until they are at least 18-21 and let them decide on their own if they want to get tested. If they are positive them they can make the choice as to whether or not they want to have kids. Because if they have kids, there's a 50/50 chance the kids will get it. It's passed down genetically, but you either get it or you don't. But the good thing is that if the child does NOT get it, then that stops the disease in its tracks. It won't he passed down anymore. It doesn't skip a generation or anything. I just pray that my children do not have this horrible disease.
This disease is so rare that no doctors here in Shreveport even specialize in treating patients with HD. The closest specialist is in Dallas or New Orleans. And I have family in New Orleans, so we drive down there every few months to take my wife to go see the doctor .
I've been reading a lot of threads since I started surfing the forums again. I'm reading all these threads and now I wanna do more mods to my truck, lol. I just wish I had the money. I'm pretty broke right now since my wife has had to stop working , plus our medical bills and prescription costs are astronomical.
Anyways, since I came back my PM box was stuffed with messages asking questions about LED conversions. Yes, I have done countless LED conversions on clusters and other interior parts for many members on here. I'll try to answer as many questions as I can to help fellow TYF members out.
