Happy to finally own one of these beasts! Last month in October 2016 we purchased a 2005 Yukon SLT in Deep Blue Metallic with 20” original GMC wheels. It is everything we had been looking for to replace our previous vehicle a 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan.

We were not planning on purchasing a GMC Yukon, but during that same month of October the minivan was finally finished at only 159,000 miles on the odometer. We used that van to travel all across the country and it provided 6 years of reliable service, but it finally died shortly after relocating to Austin, Texas. My wife had a hard time letting go of the minivan and she was not excited about the Yukon, which we nicknamed Betty. I think the name is a good fit for the Yukon as she is a quite a big girl, but also quite classy looking. :D

After one month of ownership, however, the wife is a big fan and I am too. It has plenty of room for our family, a nice entertainment system, and a nice and comfortable leather interior. She cruises smoothly down the highway and on certain trips we can even get 19MPG. My favorite is the power that the 5.3L engine puts down, which is a very welcome change from our minivan days. With the minivan, the routine was well established, shut off the A/C, turn of all accessories and everyone quiet down as we concentrate on gaining enough speed to hopefully enter the freeway at a sufficient speed to merge with traffic safely. Betty on the other hand just roars with that 5.3L engine and destroys the first few lanes of highway. We really love our new SUV so much and use it so often that we have already put in 2,000 miles since purchasing it 30 days ago. All in all, the Yukon has been a great addition to our family and one of the best purchases we have made.

About Me
I am a big car fanatic and aside from the GMC Yukon I also own an Acura GS-R and BMW M3. I drive and work on all of our cars and am always happy to contribute and share knowledge with others. Looking forward to collaborating with all the forum members on TahoeYukonForum.

Details:

Thank you gents. I appreciate the kind words. Got plenty of projects to start soon (e.g. Third Brake Light, Climate Sensor, and a thorough detailing job with PoorBoys products) and will be posting throughout the forum soon.

Congrats, welcome to the forum, and rest assured your Yukon won't be finished at a mere 159,000 miles. It will just be getting fully broken in by then. These things last a long long time.

quest51210,

Traffic in the Austin are is no joke. That time estimate seems appropriate at rush hour standstill traffic on 35 South. :D

95ecsahoe,

There are a few things I can think of right away:
  • Tint front windows: Try match rear, perhaps 35%. This is necessary in Texas.
  • Upgrade Foglights: One foglight is out. Might go OEM, but will consider aftermarket.
  • Front Driver Seat: Still serviceable, but in the next two years will upholster seat.
  • Differential cover: Upgrade to G2 Brute differential cover with dipstick or something similar.

Swap both diff fluids while you're at it.

20% is stock in Tom the rear of that body style. They went to 35 factory 07+

Definitely consider an upgraded halogen bulb like a silverstars or something, if you don't want led/hid.

Look on eBay they sell new seat bottom cover for $150-200 and you can put them on yourself

If you're ever in SA I have an affordable tint guy, can also tint front windshield affordably. Also have an upholstery guy that replaces seat bottom for $110 and it's 4-6hrs. fog lights are cool, but a HID projector retrofit may be more your taste.

Great! We go to San Antonio from time to time so I will definitely take you up on the tint and upholstery contact info. Could you please post or IM. It is most definitely appreciated.

Let the customization/improvement process begin.
