ok so i installed my HD 4l60e from monster transmissions today. I went to start it up, it started, but it has an erratic idle. When I shift it out of park the truck dies. When i give it gas in park it almost dies, then it finally revs up. I also put high flow cats, throttle body spacer, and a magnaflow muffler on while i did the trans. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know anything about it?

thanks
mike

Will the spacer really cause this problem? and all the vaccuum lines are ok... i didnt touch any of them. I also kinked the egr tube that goes on the header when i put it back on. I took that back off and the truck actually ran in reverse and drive... but the shifter doesnt light up in D321. Im thinking the neutral safety switch may be bad or the shifter cable might be out of adjustment for that problem. I've also heard the MAP sensor could be bad, I am also going to check the distributor to make sure i didnt crack it even though im pretty sure it didnt hit the firewall.

Any other ideas?

Recheck all your connections even areas you think you didn't touch. Sounds as though it might be mass air or iac valve on throtlle body also check the seal around the TB did you use a new one when you put the spacer on it's a small runner basket iaid into the intake can be replaced if the original.

i pulled the throttle body spacer off and it seems to be running better. I still have to try and connect my egr tube that i crushed and see if it still runs ok, otherwise im getting a new one from the dealer tomorrow.

I also found it wierd that when i shift it, the lights light up for P, R, and N, but not for D, 3, 2, or 1. What could cause this?

A spacer a cause a problem? No way...LOL paperweight and a whistle. Vacuum leaks suck...some you hear some you can not. I'd look over all the vacuum lines really carefully. Hear any sucking when its started? No codes? get a water bottles and spray vac lines to see if there is any bubbling.

GOOD LUCK!

Keep us updated on the trans...think about installing a tranny cooler to protect your investment?

So the trans is up and running... still no D321 lights, but it seems to be working like a champ. They told me the break in is 1000 miles... im counting down every mile. I'm actually afraid to get on it anyway... I'm afraid to break it lol. As for an extra tranny cooler, i was looking at the one b & m makes.... not sure yet though.

So sure enough, the trans took a ******** shit on me last thursday night.

I was driving along and the SES light came on. So i stopped and checked it, came up p0441, which ive been pulling for six months and has nothing to do with the trans. I started the truck up to get back on the road, and i notice i have no OVERDRIVE after driving past 50mph in 3rd gear. The next morning, i took the truck for a drive around the block, still no OD, but this time i gave it some gas to get from 40 to 50mph, and it felt like it was slipping REALLY bad, and eventually it popped out of 3rd gear. I let off the gas and it grabbed again. So after that I took the hoe to a local trans shop to run for trans codes. It came up P1870, which is GM manufacturer specific for 'TRANSMISSION COMPONENT SLIPPAGE'. He cleared the code, I drove home, which is about a mile away. I got on my street and got into third gear and all of a sudden it popped out. It felt like it was completely in neutral. So I shifted the column shifter into '3', and it drove home up the street.

I've done some research, and the P1870 code could be anything from the ignition switch which powers the solenoids, to a bad torque converter (I just bought a new one with the trans though), to a TCC valve/ plunger being f*cked up in the valve control body.

I have to call Monster Transmissions with the code it pulled tomorrow morning, but does anyone have any experience with these problems?

Did you have someone put a tune in for the new transmission? Pull your battery for 15 mins to clear all codes and let the relearn start over.

I installed the trans while precisely following the instructions Monster Transmissions supplied.

My battery was disconnected the whole time during the process so the computer had to be cleared of all codes.

Anyways... Doc at monster said that they werent even gonna waste my time and they were gonna ship a new trans to me tomorrow, July 13th. Its good that they dont wanna waste my time but it sucks to burn up my warranty this fast :(

Did you clean out the cooler and lines?? You might have had a bunch of junk blocking it and not cooling it properly ... I got a kit to clean mine when I did my tranny swap. Also I would get the biggest aftermarket cooler you can afford and put it in AFTER the radiator cooler.
