Picked this up today. Traded our 06 yukon xl for it. 2011 2500 suburban, 47,000 mi. Just in time to pull our camper to our dautghers softball tournament next weekend. See what the difference will be.

Well, Ridculous. My 06 Yukon xl was only rated to about 5000lbs towing. It has the 5.3l and the 3.42 gears. Compared to the Burb thats rated at 9400 to 9600lbs with the 3.73 gears. And the suspension is beefer. How much more can the 2500 tow over the 1500? Also the difference is in the suspension only right?
Suspension and brakes are better. The limiting factor is still the hitch on the GMT900 that is tied into the bumper. If you frame mount a hitch (like Duraburb does) it will be much more rigid, and easily tow more.
Looks like a nice upgrade. I was trying to find a GMT900 when we bought ours, but they all sold quickly. I am happy with the GMT800, 4.10 gears and 12,000 lb tow rating though![]()
Good point. Never thought of it like that. I had planned to swap out the 5.3 for a 6.0 and change gears in our yukon but found the suburban. Plus what a I bought the suburban for it was a no brainer. You can change all the parts you want and it won't change the actual tow rating. It would make it more capable of towing heavier, but if you get in an accident towing more than the official rating as documented by GM you may be denied insurance coverage, and be held liable for damages.
