New Oil Temperature guage issue

just got a new issue with the truck. other night i drove on the local higway had to speed up to ge away from a 18 wheeler that was drifting. usually the oil temp guage jumps then comes down. this time it went all the way to 80 but did not come down. its stuck there. it goes back down to 0 when i turn the car off then jumps back to 80 when its driving. i havent gotten any warnings, all the fluids are normal. car runs normal otherwise. only thing thats changed is i got a new head unit installed earlier that night. i searched really quick and read it could be a short or some kind of guage reader can be busted. any thoughts? repairs? 2004 tahoe 5.3 v8

Most likely a wire issue or sending unit.
