I don’t see the wiring harness they are talking about.. as well the P3, the way it’s mounted in the video , does not look like a very good spot

My harness was way up by the steering column under the dash. It was helpful to remove the lower knee panel that runs across the bottom of the front of the dash under the steering column. It was just a couple screws if I remember correctly

I've heard that people have to really look or dig for the harness under the dash; it may be somewhat integrated into another harness, hiding. Maybe someone who's found it on an NNBS can elaborate.

The P3 can be mounted in lots of different positions and/or locations; installation instructions here with examples:

Maybe this helps?
That second link you posted is like my brake controller and mounted pretty much the same way. When I'm not using it, I unplug it and stick the connector up under the lip of the dash and put the controller in the center console.

I've had that controller since about 2007 and used it on my 2001 for years, mounted the same way. I actually bought a second mount and I'm able to move the controller from one vehicle to the other just by unplugging/plugging and snapping it into/out of the mount.

This is what I do; most of the time it's not in the bracket. My neighbor and I co-owned a camper for a while and shared the controller. We bought a second bracket to install in his Pilot so all he needed to do was snap the controller in place and plug in the wires when he was taking the camper on a trip.

Nice… I am going to be pulling 5000lbs.. so hopefully I won’t feel the need to change the 3.42 gearing..

Even the takonsha website doesn’t list the p3 as compatible.. only the p2

I don't think you can go wrong with either, and either would work in your truck. As described on the eTrailer site, the P2 is more of an entry level controller. Nothing wrong with that; they connect and work similarly. I got the P3 because I liked the features and the menu/display.

It would be interesting to know why Tekonsha doesn't list the P3 as compatible; that might be worth a chat with them. But plenty of us out here run the P3 in these trucks with no issues and love it.

Ok, I got the P3 installled and hooked up the trailer for the first time.. I followed the directions for the P3 to set the gain. While I certainly felt the brakes, I could not get the controller to lock up the trailer brakes even at max gain of 14.0… is there something I am missing?

How heavy is your trailer? Mine weighs 7000 pounds, with 6300 of that on the 3500 lb Lippert axles, which are marginal for the job at best. I've done all of the adjustments I can/should and while the trailer brakes will engage firmly, I cannot get them to lock the tires. I've had a couple of panic stops while towing and have declared it safe.

I am pulling a taxa mantis overland,

listed as 3500 lbs .. I weighed it connected to my vehicle and it weighed 3160#, so I would add back in the tongue weight… so 3500# sounds right.

Nice, it has axle-less suspension but looks like it has regular electric brakes, so the adjustment method suggested above should work great. Sweet little camper.

We're pulling this one around: https://forestriverinc.com/rvs/travel-trailers/alpha-wolf/26DBH-L/4038

"Brand new" trailer? Trailer brakes take a few hundred miles to break in (I have seen 200 miles in a Dexter manual). They will not work at full capability at first. Your brake manufacturer should have instructions on proper break-in (eg. make X number of stops from 40 to 20mph using just the trailer brakes).

That said, I was able to lock up the tires on my 6000 pound trailer the day I picked it up. But then, that dealership is 1200 miles from the factory and I'm pretty sure the trailer was towed, not trailered, to the dealership.
