Like the topic says I need pre filter for cabin air in addition to the cabin filter..

I do a lot of off road adventure trips in the western deserts and mountains. This past weekend we did over 250 miles off highway in dirt trails and dirt roads...

I installed a cabin filter and it certainly helps a lot but, I think it would be cool to add in a washable foam / oil pre-filter to keep more fine dust out of the cab. I was wondering if anyone has had the air intake area apart?

I know very few guys on this forum ever get their rides dirty but there are a few of you on here like me...

So , Any Ideas???

I have seen pre filters on other cars years ago and they are a very porous foam very close to the air intake. Like a large cell foam. This keeps the air flowing but still catches some dust. If you actually put another restrictive filter, I don't think the blower can pull that much air and be efficient. I understand your problem and think big cell foam (like you can see light through) up under the cowl intake would get the job done. That would cut down on clogging up your cabin filter too often. The problem will be accessing it easily to rinse it out?? Pulling that cowl area plastic off under the windshield wipers looks to be a chore. Thats the air intake. So there is my thought, but you need an easy access solution.....
good luck

Yea, I am wondering if there is a easy solution.. I am hoping getting some of the dust out with a pre-filter will help.

This is what I drive through sometime for hundreds of miles on a weekend..

On the cabin air filter, I think you could do a outerwears pre filter and catch the large particulate on that and let the cabin filter take the small... You probably clean or replace the filter every trip from what I can see with that kind of dust etc. Outerwears is what alot of race trucks use on their normal engine air filter but in your case you can benefit interior also.
