Recently picked up a new 2011 Tahoe LTZ, w/ all bells + all whistles, I love this truck.
But I have noticed my navigation is a bit slow, usually takes about 15 seconds to switch from map to destination input, sometimes more, like a minute or so. Is the navigation this slow on all trucks or is this something that should be taken up with the dealer?

15 seconds sounds like an awfully long time, even for these mostly outdated nav systems.

Is this happening just when you start the truck or even after driving around for a while?
Oh and do you live in a remote rural area?

take it up with the dealer. They are not as fast as a tom tom or garmin... but certainly not that slow... now searching and acquiring routes take around 10-20 seconds depending on distance of route.

thanks, i felt like it was an unusually long time. it will need a visit to the dealer.
I had a kenwood/garmin headunit in my last truck and that was very fast. I am overall unimpressed w/ the OEM nav unit in this truck, may end up replacing it sooner or later w/ an aftermarket.

. . . I am overall unimpressed w/ the OEM nav unit. . .

About the only party impressed with the GM navigation system is GM itself. I have it from one of my unusually unreliable sources that the GM navigation programmers have never been allowed off company premises, so they have no idea that their product is from the Stone Age.

If you want to update the GM Navigation Disc to a new version, GM charges $199.99. :mfr_omg:

It appears that the public has a different view on what is a fair price for the GM Navigation Disc: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32396

He's got an 11 LTZ, I'm pretty sure he's already got the latest version.

2011 is almost over with. His navigation disc is already out of date just like the one in my 2010 Tahoe.

But my Garmin is up to date, FAST, and runs circles around the GM navigation system. And it costs ZILCH to update the Garmin unit. :)

What Garmin unit do you have? I have the W205 (I think that's the right model name) and I spend $50 every year to update it.

First of all they don't update them every year.
Second of all, like all things GM you can buy them cheaper from another vendor: http://www.amazon.com/20940248-6-0c-Navigation-Avalance-Silverado/dp/B0043JHXA4

Having said that I think even $1 is too much to charge for an update on an antiquated nav system ... but that's not the point or this thread nor relevant to the question asked by the OP.

So butthurt noted both as valid and off topic.

Is map DVD clean and free of scratches? If not, get a new one and that should fix the problem!

checked disk, dirty with smudges. Cleaned it up and it seems to be switching over to destination input at normal speed......Thanks
