Finished running 85% of my wiring for my stereo, DIC and additional electronics like the brake controller, cb, and extra 12v sockets. I'm contemplating installing a 2nd inverter in the rear of the truck as well to power an air pump or some such thing.

20150415_202525_zps2ckx1uxe.jpg
The seats and front carpet are completely out now, and stacked neatly in the rear cargo area. Once I get the front carpet back from the cleaner I'll put them back in and pull the rear carpet, and all the trim and such back there.

It's a weird juxtaposition on this truck between the things that are in mint condition and still in perfect shape like the transmission and transfercase (np246 with no pump rub), seats, owners manual, toneau cover, original maroon floormats, and cargo net, and the things that were just completely shot like the seat release cables for the rear seats, or how dirty the carpet was.

It's time to Salute the fallen, that made this entire swap possible
20150422_190630_zpsybizjlbe.jpg

Time to go to the scrapyard Rollie, may you be recycled and turned into a prius or some shit...

That's about all the progress at the moment. the bad engine is bare and unbolted, but I have to get the remains of rollie out of the way before I can get it pulled out.

In other news I'm picking up my 411 pcm this weekend, and Lextech is going to tune it for me. However I think I may wait to have that done until I make a very important decision.

For a very long time i thought "hey lets build an old school vortec 383 stroker" seemed like a good Idea at the time. However I may be able to do an LS swap instead (6.0, go big or go home!) and have it come out costing less overall than the 383 and with a similar level of performance. It won't happen for several months to a year, and will be an entirely separate thread, but that's where we are there.

Slight setback this week, getting ready to pull the rear carpet for cleaning, I noticed it was wet. Long story short, buildup in the barn door seal caused the rear cargo area to flood. Carpet is out now, but I'm fighting little rust pockets on the spot welds that need to be ground down cleaned and painted

That's about 70% of them sanded down so far

How are you getting the transfer case shifter lights to work?? I'm in the middle of doing my swap and I'm going to want to get them working. You're just a few steps in front of me lol

Not sure yet. Thinking there is a switch on top of the front pumpkin for that. If not I'm going to supply the light with switched power and connect the ground to the same pin f7 at the tccm, that will actuate the front axle. The other light there ahould already be wired to come on with the interior lights

Well I'm SAS so I am going to have to figure out how to get the lights to work. I'm waiting on parts now. She's just about done

Yeah, your build thread was one of the one I bookmarked for info. I'd probably have mine in and going, but I had to stop and build an Ark...

As soon as this damn rain quits I'll be able to pull the old motor, and it will be completely stripped and I can finish the r&r on the steering, frame, engine mounts, and engine bay

Got her pulled from the engine finally, time to drop the t case, clean it all and install the locking nut on 5th gear while it's apart
Glad I decided to pull them apart too, there's a mouse nest behind the flywheel that needs to go.

The"new"engine will be getting a scrub down this weekend and a paint job to boot. I think I'm going to resuse the old clutch too, looks to be in excellent shape.

880 casting of course, remains to be seen if it's a 4 bolt. I still need to drain the pan and flip it over to check out the bearings and redo them if needed

Finally got the old vortec out. Considering saving it for a 355 build and slapping it in an s10, but that's for another day.

Now it's time to wash down and paint the engine bay, and redo the steering, front suspension, and brake booster while I'm in here. Fortunately I've got everything but the steering box and the idler and Pitman arms ready to rock

Got a lead on 5.3l so this build might be leaping to an ls/ manual swap in no time

On top of the new 5.3l, i've managed to sell the 5.7 that was in front of the nv4500 already, which should pay for my mounting, flywheel, and pressure plate so i can get this show on the damn road already!

Slow updates lately, sorry! Engine is close to ready to go in, just a bit more painting of the frame and engine bay first.

Find some research I found that all ls cranks will fit an ls2 sealed pilot bearing, and that the 5.3 will bolt up to a 6.0 flywheel (nfw1050 is the one I used) along with a luk 4-201 clutch kit. I assume any kit would work but that's close to oem on a 6.0 which should be good enough for now, and it also comes with the appropriate pilot bearing. This means that my nv4500 will slide together like butter when it's all said and done.

To accompany my ls swap, I had thought about using the nbs cluster board to power the gauges thus negating any need for several of the typical sensor changes and giving more reliable gauges. That's morphed into this little beauty

Not much progress on the transmission yet aside from ordering my new clutch. Engine however is a different story, once I finish the driver side frame rail she'll be ready to go in :)
