Make my 5.3 sound like a 6.2. HELP.

Okay, so after hearing the my friends Escalades' stock exhaust I got envy and decided to do a exhaust on my Suburban.

Basically I want my Suburban 5.3 to sound like a Denali/Escalade 6.2. What will achieve this?

I had talked to JD08 and he said he was really pleased with the GMPP Touring.

Originally, I ordered the GMPP Borla exhaust but then had second thoughts and canceled/held the order for now. I am torn between the 24 inch Magnaflow and the 24 inch GMPP Borla. I like the fact the Magnaflow has the proper offset/center that match our trucks. The Borla GMPP Touring is Center/Center. Harder to install?

The only problem is I don't want the dreaded drone, and the AFM gurgling. (I have been reading on forums a lot). Please note I have never really heard the AFM V4 mode and don't know what to expect.
Right now I just have the Resonator Delete, and don't hear anything.

Oh, and Corsa is a no no..... too much $$$. Unless someone knows where to get just the "touring" muffler.

So help guys....

Also, I put this in general discussions as I am more concerned with the sound vs. performance. Though performance is good too.

I'm very please with how good my Magnaflow 12589 sounds especially now that it's "broken" in. Sounds great with little to no cabin drone!!!

Have you thought about Flowmaster? just a suggestion. I actually like drone though so these suggestions may not help.

Maybe buy a used 6.2 liters's exhaust? I think it's all 3 or 3.5 inch.... But at the end of the day, theres no replacement for displacement....

X2 on this one. Had it on my 08 Tahoe paired with Volant tips+resonator delete and it sounded much better then stock with no drone.

Hey has anyone run the Resonator AND and aftermarket muffler?

Would that still sound bad when V4 kicks in? Would it get rid of that sound?

I wish I could swing the dough....... but. Hey what is your opinion on the GMPP BORLA and the 24 inch Magnaflow? As a tuner.............. Since you may soon be my next mod.

Also, it is true that the V8 to V4 switch gets more apparent (jerky) after the BB tune?

Exhausts don't really add much performance wise, but they can take away. Of the above mentioned brands, I think you are good to go with whatever fits your wallet!

The V8 to V4 switch will depend on your specific transmission. Some seem to not have as fluid of a transition as others, but that is merely mechanical.

Is it possible to literally take the entire exhaust from an escalade headers all the way to resonator and put it on a 5.3 Tahoe?

^^^^ Going from a 2.75 inch exhaust to a 3.5 may be a bad idea. Would really have no low end left. Someone correct me if I am wrong please.

I don't think the headers would fit your 5.3L without some major changes.

I am sure GM made their stock exhaust pipe a certain size for a reason. Some back pressure is good.

Jenna are the headers even different? As far as piping size or does the size difference start at the y pipe?
My mom has an escalade and I've tried to figure this out. To me it looks like the piping the same until the y pipe right before the flange.....? Correct me if I'm wrong.


To clarify I think the tubing going into the y pipe is the same on 6.2 and 5.3 alike but the output of the y pipe is a 3.5 on the 6.2. So basically the 5.3 just constricts at the y?

There is a big difference in displacement. 5.3 = 325, 6.2 = 376

I think the Y pipe would be the biggest issue. We used the same headers on our 6.0L, and when we swapped to L92 heads.
