so would there really be any performance benefit from installing the entire catback vs just stalling the muffler?

IMO, not unless the stock pipe was 2" in diameter(I am not sure on the id/od of our stock pipes) then the larger diameter would flow more but I think stock the pipes are 2.75"-3". The other difference would be madrel bending in the tubing but again IMO, I think that would affect the tone a bit more than a few extra hp to be worth it. I would invest more in the headers and ypipe than the catback.

if you know a place that will weld shit up cheap, you can save a lot of money by getting the magnaflow muffler and a couple of high flow cats and have it all cut and welded up for probably less then half...

I plan to remove my cats and hammer out all the 'media' inside and re-weld them back in.

However, if you are thinking about installing long tube headers, these will usually eliminate the two cats. So if you are planning headers, then just get the magnaflow

I just went to midas today to ask about magnaflow and they said the package is 289 with tips, then I went to another store here called Columbus custom exhaust and they said $365, the actually had magnaflow Tips in the store with the brand imprinted on them. Which is the better deal, or is it a nobrainer?

The nobrainer is to put a muffler on and dump the exhaust under the truck eliminating any tip at all, and I recommend a Flowmaster 50 series

Im with him ^^ You can get a flowmaster catback for those prices. I personally dont give a rats ass if my tips say donkey dick or nothing lol The turn down would give a bit more rumble and also eliminate any clearance issues you may have when gettin low/

With flowmaster, does the lower series ie 40 means Louder sound? I don't want really loud, so is the 50 series quieter. I'm trying to do one of the two on Friday. I have an appt set up, just don't know which one to go with

I just replaced my cats after one went bad with some Eastern Catalytic (cheap) high flow and a 50 series flowmaster. Nice clean rumble and not too much cab noise. It is definitely more responsive after the swap, but it could be partially because it was throwing codes.

The 50 series is a good muffler for what you want. It isnt annoying at a constant speed. It will let you know when you get on it though.
