I took off the stock 275/55-20s and put in Yokohama Parada Spec-X 305/50-20s. It was the next size wider with the same diameter. When UPS brought them I was surprised how wide they were. I noticed a slight rub on the front inner fender at full lock, but no other issues yet.

I have the same issue as I like the yoks but they seem to run small for the size. I saw a NNBS Hoe with the 275's and they just looked to small compared to the Bridgestones. I had the X's on my TBSS and was very happy with them, but they looked small compared to the Goodyears that came on it. I wanted to move up to the 275 but stuck with the stock size.

Now for the questions.

1. Can you tell me the sectioned width of the 305's mounted on the stock 20's? My stock 275's are tight in the back due to being lowered. I had to trim out the front of the wheel well plastic as they would rub on corners when I had a few people with me.

2. Did the shop give you any flack about the 305's being to big for the stock rims?

3. How much weight did it take to get them to balance?

Looks killer!

Yes the Yokohamas even read a little smaller if you compare specs side by side on Tirerack.com.

1) I tape measured the section width the best I could and it looks like 12". The spec says 12.4". It does seem to bulge slightly from a rim that probably should be 1" wider.

2)I mounted them myself, but a couple guys commented how big they were.

3)They balanced really nicely. A couple took less than 1 ounce per side. One needed 3 ounces. I used a Hunter Roadforce balancer and one was 8lbs, 2 were 11lbs and one was 14lbs, which is awesome for a tire this size.

My concern now is the new Pedders 2/3" kit in my garage. It rubs a little on lock, which is hardly ever, but I hit a dip in the road and heard something rub while moving quickly. I can accept this little bit, but if I lower it, it may be real bad.
I almost regret it because lowering was more important to me than bigger tires. I really though they would just be a "tad" bigger.
Maybe I'll just put a rear sway bar on to improve handling?

I wish you lived closer as I would offer to let you try the new skins out on mine to see if they rub.

I might see if the local Discount Tire would try to mount one up and see if it fits. My brother in law used to work there but quit last year.

Thanks for the info and if you do install the Pedders kit update us as to fitment issues. I may still be trying to decide on my tires.

Should only rub a bit in the rear which can be resolved by using a heat gun or hairdryer to mold the inner liner back where it rubs. Wider looks much better

Thanks, the heat gun is a good idea. I didn't like the idea of chopping up my inner fender.
Here is a picture of how it usually looks. I am embarrassed of those dirty ones.

I really don't think I have room to lower it with the Pedders Sport II kit. 3" will definitely rub in the rear. It already has a slight rub when I go up a curb while turning. I guess it is the body roll.

Well I need to step up and buy some tires this week. I am thinking of looking at the 285/50/20 as it has the right width but is a little shorter by checking the specs. I think the 275 will look goofy even though I am lowered. I remember seeing a stock ride height Tahoe in the Target parking lot with the Yok's and they did look small.

I talked to Mike at Pedders and he said the 305/50-20 will be ok with the sport II pkg if you trim some of the plastic wheel well. Did you have to do this already?

I did trim out the lower inside wheel well. Right after I installed the Pedders kit I loaded up a trailer plus 6 people and 2 dogs in the Tahoe and went on a camping trip. By the time I got home I had worn the plastic down so thin I could cut it out with a dull box cutter. Even after I had unloaded everything I could hear it rub on hard corners.

I have since added some lift bags for the next time I load the Tahoe down.

Your comment about pedders saying the 305's will fit has me back to square one:emotions122:

Well I looked through Tire Rack for quite a while, and the 305/50 is the same exact diameter, next size wider. I have the Auto leveling so think loading mine up shouldn't hurt.
On mine, at least, there is a bulge in the plastic wheel well at the rear for the upper shock bolt. I also have a bulge in the front where the ride height sensor is. What part did you trim? Any pictures?

Forgive the dirt but it rained / snowed today. My concern is when the wheel is turned. The front tires are very close to the wheel well. I have never had them rub but there is not much room for more tire.

The front has room for 1 finger when the wheel is turned.

The rear has room for 2 fingers when the wheel is turned.

We have a funny situation. I have wide tires and want to lower. You have lowered and want wide tires

The rear has room for 2 fingers when the wheel is turned
The rear wheels turn?

The front rubs ever so slightly when the wheels are at full lock, in which you would barley be moving. It isn't bad at all or concerning.
The rear looks like it will rub after lowered. Does your rear rub now? Here is a picture of the area I am concerned with.

The rear comment was directed to the rear of the front tire compared to the front of the front tire. It just seems very tight when you turn the wheel. The rear wheel well seems to have enough room. I will try to snap a pic Tuesday.
