With your Yukon, if I'm understanding correctly and looking at 4000 RPM (where the peaks are), I'm coming up with a 20 ft. lbs. gain at the wheels. This doesn't seem massive considering the expense of swapping gears. But, it's gains all across the board and helpful to the trans. I'd have to say it's a win.
It's more than that. At 3,000 rpms in 4th gear with 3.42 gears the truck is putting down 1,214 foot pounds of torque at the differential. With 3.73 gears that increases to 1,324, a 110 foot pound gain in differential torque. The 6.2 blows that out of the water, putting down 1,572 foot pounds of torque!

Now I'm really confused! I thought those were newton-meters.
