Lifter noise

I have a little lifter noise on start up. It goes away when up to temp. Gonna try my hand at pulling the valve covers and carburetor cleaning down the rods. Wish me luck. It’s been a great vehicle. 276k miles and counting.

Are you sure it's not a broken exhaust manifold bolt? Sounds just like a lifter tick.

A loose spark plug also sounds like that.

This made me realize my truck has tick too... I'm gonna put some Marvel Mystery Oil in her and bring up my next oil change by half and hope that helps. I noticed some sludge in the oil pan when I replaced my gasket so I'm gonna assume the engine is dirty.

Well I finally found the fix to my lifter noise. It got progressively worse and I remembered someone on here saying try a new oil pump. So that’s what I did and there has not been any lifter noise in the last two weeks amd it has been cold, for NC anyway. I am very happy with the results

What did it cost you and do you have 4WD?

I had several things down. High pressure oil pump installed. Water pump replaced. Belt replaced. Lower control arm replaced. And safety inspection. Total was $1390 I will look at receipt and get you exact on HPOP.

That seems like a damn good price to me for all that work. I’d like to get my pan gaskets replaced, oil pump, pickup tube oring and that oil splash shield thing too. And I am pretty sure my drivers side engine mount is wiped out. Being 4WD I am sure the front axle and crossmember have to be dropped to do all that which will be a lot of labor.

My mechanic is a good friend so he helps me out on the labor and if I pay cash it’s even better. Only thing I have left to do on the Yukon is replace the rear main due it leaking a little. After that I think I will be ready to put some money into extras.

Ok here’s the run down on my Yukon:

Oil Cooler Gasket (2yr warranty)
Oil Pan Gasket (2yr warranty)
HP Oil Pump (1yr warranty)
T. Cover gasket (2yr warranty) can someone explain what this is???
H20 Pump (LT warranty)
Heater Hose (2yr warranty)
6 quarts Dexos 5w30
Oil Filter
2 Gallons Antifreeze
A/C belt
Drivers Inner T-Rod (LT warranty)
NC State Inspection

Total $1,393.50

I think that’s is a good price for all that work. What’s your thoughts?

dang good price esp for a 4wd due to the front diff has to drop down... probably should have done a crank seal too, which they may have.. they tend to leak over time. Whoever is doing the motor mount... it's a pita and if you diy a lift is great along with a few jacks.. it's like putting a 10" square block in a 4" hole.....

Front (crankshaft) seal generally comes as a component of the timing cover gasket set. I would be extremely surprised if they didn’t swap it out. That’s standard practice.

About 1,000 miles since the work and still no lifter noise. It’s been 20* some mornings and it makes no noise at all. Can’t say enough about the HPOP work he did. If you have any lifter tick I highly recommend doing it.
