I have a 2017 Yukon with the 5.3L and 135k miles. I've had a range AFM disabler since about 80k miles. Saturday morning I was a few blocks from home and I had a sudden loss of power where I gave truck throttle but engine speed wasn't picking up going about 20 MPH. I limp home about 1 mile and I have a new loud ticking sound from the right side of the engine. No codes, but I hear noise is coming from cylinder 4, so I figured it was a collapsed lifter. Pull valve cover and notice 3rd rocker from front on right side has about 1/8" clearance indicating the lifter wan't fully collapsed. Pull the rocker and find a bent push rod. Watched some videos and decided to get a new push rod and check tolerance. Located a new push rod from NAPA and noticed the tolerance of this lifter seemed to be in line with all the other cylinders. Put truck all back together and it sounds good and runs smooth again. I've put about 10 miles on it today now in 3 short trips close to home without issue.
So, question is, where do I go from here. I know the right thing to do is an AFM delete and I may end up doing it as this is my towing truck, I just need to decide if I continue to daily this truck in the coming weeks or park it and get another vehicle for now to daily. Has anyone had something similar happen and get any kind of mileage out of the truck without a repeat bent lifter? I know I lucked out that I was so close to home this time and likely won't be so lucky next time.
