Lift Kit problem

Hello everyone,


I joined the community here in hopes of solving my current problem. I recently got a 7.5 inch Rough Country lift kit installed on my 2007 Yukon SLT 4WD. The problem is while I am driving and let go off the gas. The very front middle bottom of the truck makes a very loud rubbing sound. It only makes the sound when I let off the gas... if I step on the gas the sound stops temporarily but returns as soon as I let off the gas. this sound does not happen while I set my truck on 2WD. So essentially, it makes a rubbing sound ONLY when the truck is on “Auto” or “4WD” the truck never did this before the lift. The shop that installed my lift kit reviewed my truck tightened everything back but the problem persisted.

Any ideas? Any advice is appreciated!

Sorry that I cannot assist you on lift questions.

Probably a CV axle or driveshaft. The angles from the lift often make old joints that seemed "ok" suddenly make noise. Try removing the front driveshaft and see if the noise goes away.

Would that explain why it makes noise with 4WD ONLY when I let off the gas?

Yes, doing so changes how the load is transferred through the joints; torque from the drivetrain vs torque from the tires. When you're on the gas the load/rotation in one directions may take up play in a worn joint vs when coasting

Post up pictures of your front lift especially showing cv axles and drive shaft.

Have you checked for any play or looseness in the driveshaft? Especially the slip splines.

Front driveshaft u joint angle is causing that issue. You need a dual cardan shaft if you plan to drive in 4wd at highway speeds. Even RC will tell you the same.

Not as of yet, but from what everyone has been recommending me it seems to be the driveshaft u joint angle. If this is very common with lifted 4WD vehicles why is the part not included with the RC lift Kit? I wonder...

Yes there are several companies that sell the shaft. Skyjacker GM10146DS, super lift 3287, and rough country 5083.1 are just a few.

I read somewhere on a lift instructions that if you drive highway speeds in 4wd you might notice vibration. To fix it replace the shaft with dual cardan. Be mindful that you need to grease the joint every 5k miles so they say. I have both front and rear to correct my angles so they don’t vibrate. I still notice a little but not much. It’s the angles from transfer case to the differential that creates the issue.
