I have been looking for a good thread on led drl replacements and haven't been able to find much. What kind of led drl bulbs has everyone used and how do you like them? I want to put the jdm Astars in for the reverse light replacements but heard they don't last long for drl.

I use these in my DRLs.

They are only 10w, I've had them in my truck for only 2 months, but so far, I havent had any trouble.

Do you mean just using the astars would last a long time as a drl? I was looking for a 4114 bulb by them but wasn't able to find any.
Which ones are youW8TVI?
Thanks 95escahoe!

the LED bulb I linked to fits all these base types: 3156 3056 3356 3456 4156 3157 3047 3057 3357 3457 4057 4111 4114 4157.

There is no "4114" LED.

The problem that you have to worry about is the heat that the lamps create.

The 1200 lumen JDM ASTAR isn't well heat sinked, so it tends to kill it self when ran for long periods of time in a small enclosed area like the where the DRLs sit in our trucks (but it does work just fine when used as a reverse light because it runs for such short periods of time, it doesn't have time to heat up much).

The one I linked to in my post claim to run at 10w (that is almost 20w less than the stock DRL bulbs), so they should work just fine in that application.

That only really applies to incandescent bulbs.
It's the wattage of the bulb that is more important (and the reviews on how fast they die) in this case.

The stock 4114 bulb is a 29w bulb, I think.
If you find a bulb that is a lot lower wattage it should last a lot longer.

No my founding is based only off personally replacing my drl with multiple 3157 led bulbs till I researched and saw that its the 4114 that is the correct bulb. I never played with the incandescent bulbs but I heard they do the same.

Think of it as a high beam and a low beam. You install the 3157 in the drl spot it will be stuck on high beam powering the low beam function which it's not meant to be used as a constant light with that extra power for long periods of time.
You can trick it by swapping the leads wires on the base and reversing them.
I suck at explaining things on the Web lol

It took me a week to find the ones I posted the only true 4114 LED I've seen

First one that popped up on my search

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01A...36_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=4114+bulb&psc=1

I put in 4114 led drl gm in the Google search bar. Yoi can add key words like silverado, or yukon, exc.

Honestly I would get these, $21 ain't bad for a pair of Sylvanias. I paid $60 for mine but that was a few years ago.

Like I've said before I'm out of the drl game so I'm not sure who all makes them. Just ask the seller if it's compatible for drl. Explain why. They don't always know what led works in every single car/truck in the world. That's why they list every bulb it's "compatible" with but all that means is it will fit the base.

Check out this review I found on those:
(titled "Not suitable as a 99-06 GM truck DRL lamp")
I am not a consistent reviewer honestly, but I was inclined to review this item for two reasons. First off I am a car guy, and somewhat detail oriented so hopefully this review will save somebody some time and disappointment. I selected these bulbs due to the description and reviews saying they are perfect for DRL in the GM trucks. It is my opinion they are not, the LED are pointed towards the base of the bulb and rely solely on the reflector behind the bulb. The GM trucks truly aren't designed for this type of a bulb, they rely on the bulb to visible facing forward. To confirm this concern I pulled into my carport which has a white cement block wall. In the past when I pulled in the DRL would be visible shining against the wall until the auto headlights engaged, with these bulbs I pulled in and they were not visible at all! I backed out and inspected the lamps to find one was lit, the other was not, the one was not visible because it relies on the reflector the light is barely visible forward of the vehicle. When I installed them I could not test them because it was dark and my older Silverado does not offer a means to bypass the auto headlights. After reviewing them I realized one did not work out of the package. Just to make sure I swapped them left to right as well as used my old bulbs to test the socket as well. My conclusion: in the GM trucks and suvs prior to 2007 these are not designed to be a safe alternative to the factory style bulbs.

Any of the other styles we have linked to have forward facing LEDs and will work better in our applications.

Lol I didn't read reviews at first. But I would still ask the seller. It's the correct bulb size and now see there's reviews that say it worked for drls. It should have a warranty for that brand
Forward facing good for night, reflector facing good for day, so it mainly comes down to what your personal preference is.
Idk but now you got me looking lol

Sweet, thanks guys for all the input on it. I actually found the bulbs you found 05single and was also considering them because they had a good name behind them and were a pretty good price so I'm glad you looked at the reviews W8TVI because I think I would have regretted it lol. 95escahoe are your bulbs white or do they have a blue tint to them? I can't tell for sure from the pics you posted.

Good deal, I pulled up the site and seen they even had the other kind with the projector style on the front. They look like a pretty good company reading through their warranties on the bulbs. I think that's the route I will go as well. I might try the projector style out and see how they turn out. I really appreciate the help, I couldn't find anything before posting about it on here lol. I'm sure this thread will help more than just myself.
