I know OnStar can push out updates, I asked them about the RSE and they said they would push out the latest update.
Yes, but that only pertains to infotainment area of the vehicle, not ECM,BCM type modules....

Was driving my 2025 Yukon today and got a notice that an update was available which is the first one for my 2025 so when I got home I let it do the update which took about 15 minutes. Does anybody know what the update was for or what it fixed?
Thanks
So yeah, got the update message yesterday morning when I got to work. Accepted the update and went i side. After work I had the update complete message and went about my way. Everything seemed to work fine...until, thus morning. Got in the truck, started it up, and the radio wasn't working. Hmmm... thought it was muted... nope. Turned it off, opened and closed the door, started it up, and again, nothing. Went to work and noticed no turn signal sound. They worked fine just no sound. Tried calling OnStar. They answered according to the infotainment screen, but I couldn't hear them. So, it seemed all audio was muted ...smh. Got to work and called Onstar from my phone and seems thier technical assistance department doesn't get in till 0900 EST.... seriously? So, I came out at lunch, started the truck and all.audio returned... whew! So, if this happens to you, don't panic. Be patient and hopefully everything works out fine.

I learned something new today from OnStar Tech Support Level 2.

If the Dealer Tech does the installation of an update through the OBD2 Tech Tool then it DOES NOT show up in the multimedia menu screen under UPDATES & HISTORY.

I've had two OTA updates in the last two weeks including one yesterday. I don't think either one of them originated from Onstar and I'm pretty sure both of them updated some things that had to do with vehicle function versus infotainment function. I wish I could figure out what each one actually improved. Don't really know how....

Mentioned before that OTA updates are rolled out in geographic regions but nothing here recently in NWLA yet it will happen.

After the dealership told me they loaded GM 651.20 in my Tahoe I was surprised today to get an alert saying there is a software update pending GM 651.20

So I emailed the dealership and asked the Service Adviser if he and the Shop Foreman could contact GM and sign up for a course on how to do software updates because clearly neither of them knows what they are talking about.

After downloading GM 651.20 I looked at my RSE screens and the home screen didn't change at all. Can anyone with RSE who confirmed they have downloaded GM 651.20 advise if they noticed anything new on RSE?

I got a notification yesterday that V653.20 was available. See screen shot. Tried to install, and it failed twice, and now the update has completely disappeared (i.e., no longer shows when I go to Updates in the Settings menu), and it says my software is up to date. Anyone else successfully install this update? (I have a 2023 Tahoe, BTW)

UPDATE 10/6/25: I finally got this update to install successfully overnight. It's interesting though, my software version still shows as Y177.6.1, as it did prior to this update. So, I'm not sure what to make of that.

Per my service advisor...be sure your vehicle is outside with a clear view of the sky and then check for any updates...won't work inside a garage or obstructed view. He was right because I tried it inside my garage and no go, but worked fine outside.
Join your home wifi, if you have wifi near your vehicle. OTA updates will download from inside a cave :).

Yesterday I got notified on the MyChev App that my 25 Tahoe HC had an update

Important Update GM N25252854

Then I got the message it had failed so I remembered that previous failures happed when the truck battery is below 70%

Charged the battery and then a successful update.

Just wondering if other 2025 owners got the same update pushed out this past week?

My app says up to date as well, and I have not received the specific update you mentioned. I’m in a 2023 Tahoe, if that matters. I actually did just check for updates in the vehicle a day or two ago, and it said I had the latest.

Google Search says this but it would nice to see actual GM Update Details Page.

General Motors software update N25-252854 is a 2025 release primarily focused on system stability and foundational performance for modern GM vehicles (like the Silverado EV and Sierra EV).

Change Notes for N25-252854
While specific detailed logs vary by vehicle trim, this update typically includes:
  • OTA Process Stability: Improvements to ensure successful future over-the-air (OTA) software updates and notification delivery.
  • Diagnostics Enhancements: Refinements to vehicle diagnostics to better monitor system health.
  • Performance Fixes: Minor software performance improvements for the infotainment system.
  • Connectivity Improvements: Fixes and enhancements for Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Looks like you’re in your garage. First OTA update I did in my garage failed. Since then I drive 10min to town, park in the Walmart parking lot and it’s never failed doing it that way. OnStar uses AT&Ts network so if there isn’t good cell signal during the process it’ll fail.
Both of my updates were done in my garage. I do have wifi there and I left my phone in the truck. No issues.

Last week I got a message that an update was available. I clicked the install now button and the install began. Came back to the car 30 minutes later to a message that the update failed. Tried the "check for updates" menu item but it was grayed out. A couple of days later I got another update available message, clicked install update and nothing happened except for the button going away, the install never started. Now check for updates is available again, but when I check it it says my system is up to date, but the last update shown is from last August, Android version 12, and none of the issues this new update was supposed to address have been fixed. I'm really getting tired of this update process as this is the second time this same thing has happened to me (the update last August took three tries to eventually work). I've tried parking under a clear sky, and I've tried with the car connected to my home wifi, but the updates just will not install, and the check for updates function won't find the available update. End of rant.
