HVAC Control Unit Reset?

I have the manual hvac headunit with the temp sliders. Does anyone know if there's a reset procedure? I bought a Dorman replacement--which initially worked, but now everything is coming out of the defrost. I don't think there is, but I could be wrong.

I know ive forgotten the auto hvac relearn trick, and don’t think there’s one for manual. However I know you can also pull an hvac fuse on the drivers side of the instrument panel to cause the auto hvac to relearn

@Tonyrodz has a Tech 2 so he could reset an auto hvac head, if he had one. I don't know if there is a provision in the Tech 2 for manual hvac reset.

EDIT: Tony, can't you command the HVAC head unit with the Tech 2, to see how the various blend doors, etc. respond?

My theory on it was Everything off, pull fuse for 10 sec, while you’re waiting push buttons on the unit to drain any residual power, put the fuse in, turn the key on, without starting, wait at least 60 seconds without touching the hvac to let it do whatever it needs to do. I don’t know if it does anything on a manual control, but I think a auto will cycle all its actuators back and fourth to learn their positions

Both @swathdiver and I have tried the auto reset several times with no luck. Using a scan tool was the key to success for me.

So I replaced my mode actuator today and doing this didn’t make it relearn. However despite being installed in a different position than the one removed, it immediately operated properly.

my put it in, in whatever position and good to go... happened to be an ac delco

I’m thinking there’s lots of ac delco parts in salvage, won’t be any worse than dorman

Just get a used one through someone like LKQ online. That’s what I did with my Silverado after I bricked the original while trying to update the firmware. I know mine was digital and yours isn’t but it shouldn’t matter- they sell and ship them. Www.LKQonline.com.
Edit: I just checked and they don’t list them for your truck but sometimes you can search eBay and they pop up. LKQ’s search function is fu*ked.
