How To Remove Mirror Caps?

Anyone have tips on pulling off the mirror caps on 01-06's? i tried popping it off with a flathead and i wasn't getting anywhere. I don't want to break it, going to get them painted soon.

there is two sided tape on the back of the caps, heat it up and then use a small flatblade screwdriver and pry, there are small tabs that hold it on too. But with the use of new two sided tape it doesn't matter if they break.
