How to hardwire dash cam

This thing is kicking my butt. Ground is to a bolt to frame and power is on the fuse tap to a fuse. The camera is still not getting power. Tested the fuse with a multimeter, 12v with acc key position. Not sure what I’m missing. Any ideas? Thanks all.

Do you have a picture of how you’re tapping into the fuse block or at least a hint as to which fuse you are tapping into?

12v with acc key position

12V in ACC may not be 12V in RUN. Need to confirm your fuse is "hot" when needed. Next, you need to confirm your fuse tap has 12V out on your camera's fuse lead.

tap into the power mirror harness, easy peasy, at any rate if you don't want to use the power mirror then use the panel down at the drivers side lower kick plate

I'd go into the aux pwer 2 - which would be IIRC one of your 12v outlets.

Mind that the fuse tap is oriented correcly

Thanks all for the reply. The fuse has 12v but apparently a hardwire kit is needed in order for the camera to run properly. The kit includes a voltage detector so it doesn’t drain ur batt. I’m guessing that the cam will not run without this kit.
Also, I’m sure I’m better off using it since I don’t want a dead battery either, lol.
I’ll follow up after I receive and install the kit.

Thanks all for the reply. The fuse has 12v but apparently a hardwire kit is needed in order for the camera to run properly. The kit includes a voltage detector so it doesn’t drain ur batt. I’m guessing that the cam will not run without this kit.
Also, I’m sure I’m better off using it since I don’t want a dead battery either, lol.
I’ll follow up after I receive and install the kit.

this why I stated to use the harness on the mirror, it only has power when the key is on, no way for it to drain anything
I have mine connected to a 12v to 5v usb adapter wired up down at the drivers kickpanel, then I have my radar detector wired to the mirror harness, both come on automatically when the key is turned on and shut off when the key is off

There may be more to that "kit", but connecting to a switched IGN 12V means the camera is only on when ignition switch is on. Maybe the camera is like some GPS, they run on 5V, so you need a resister.

Yes I am running the Rexing cam and I had the same issue. You cant bypass the doohickey thing in the harness. I cut it out by accident when I went to install in a different location. I had to order a new harness and it worked perfectly.

Congrats on the dash cam! I love mine.

For what it's worth, I tapped into the sunroof power wire on the passenger side dash access panel as described here, and it worked great!

All dash cams I've seen require 5V reducer. You can get dash cam-specific hardwire kits with fuse taps on Amazon for $12.
