Plastic-Bag.jpg

Two generic spray bottles for the simple green or dawn soap and the silk shine.
And a couple medium sized towel.

Prep,

Start from a cold engine, warm it up just enough that you can lay your hand on the cylinder head and not get burnt. Turn off engine.
Think just warm.

Cover the alternator with a plastic grocery bag and wrap it up.
Cram the Towel under the front of your intake manifold. the gap under your throttle body.
You will see a flat aluminum plate under the plastic intake. cram the towel in there. cover as much of the gap as possible. This will stop water from entering your Knock sensor holes.

A water hose sucks for this job and is more than likely going to flood your knock sensors. DO NOT USE IT!

If you have polished aluminum in your engine bay. Take care not to let the simple green sit on it to long as it will dull the finish.

If your concerned about dulling your aluminum parts, use Dawn concentrated dish washing soap.

Cleaning,

1: Hose down the entire engine bay with simple green, EVERYTHING, including steering components.
2: pull hood down but do not latch it.
3: Wait 5 mins, you should be smelling the simple green realy well, maybe even alil steam.

4: Raise hood, the simple green should be sticky, NOT dry.
5: Hose it down again with simple green. Really blast it good, Repeat step 2 and 3.

6: Raise hood, Grab pressure washer, Start blasting all the dirt and nasty stuff off.
Realy get in there. under the coils, behind intake manifold. steering box, Brake booster, fenders. BLAST it ALL!
Every thing is water proof, Blast it! Take care when spraying plastic wire conduits as they maybe brittle and fly apart.
7: Once satisfied, that you have sprayed everything, remove the bag from alternator and the towel from under the intake.
8: Fire up the engine. Yes you belts will squeal like a stuck pig. Warm up engine like in prep section. Then turn off engine.
9: wrap alternator and stuff towel under intake like in prep.
10: Repeat step 1-6, you may need another dry towel.

If your efficient and have properly blasted all the crud off you can skip to Finishing.
If not. repeat 1-6 until your engine bay is properly cleaned. Touch everything with your hand. If you hand comes out black, CLEAN IT AGAIN.

Finishing.

1: Warm engine as in prep stage.
2: Cover alternator.
3: Grab your silk shine, Hose down EVERYTHING. If it puddles, GOOD. hose down all wires, plastics engine block, coils, fuse box, brake booster, EVERYTHING.
4: repeat step 3 in cleaning stage.
5: Raise hood, Grab a hand towel and start wiping everything down. IF your towel turn black or gets dirty, you did a shit job cleaning.
The silk shine will leave a nice smooth matt, non greasy finish.
I only wipe down the large plastics. and let the wire conduits soak.
6: Step back and smile! you now have a spotless engine bay that is AWESOME!
No more will you have dirty hands working under the hood.
Now grab a microfiber cloth and a swifter dust thing and go do your interior.

Pop that hood in a day or two. That's when the Silk shine has fully dried and has spread evenly. Its a awesome sight.
