2021 GMC 5.3 Liter with 8k miles.

My dash says 19.1 since new. I get a true 20.0 on a long road trip (using GPS miles and gallons pumped).

Had a 17 Tahoe towing a 7000 lb trailer from IL to gulf shores AL. Family weight add 500 lbs. MPG 8.5 through the trip under load. New 21 Yukon XL Denali ultimate package duramax towing in the wind 9.5 ish. Don’t care about MPG personally but hoped the baby max would have done better. GM needs a modern day excursion. Would definitely rate an MSRP purchase if they were an option.

Cross-posting from a GD thread on the 6.2 motor MPG:

Denali standard wheel base with the 6.2L engine:

I’m averaging about 20.8 with 90% hwy. I had a flat a week ago and had to drive at or below the speed limit for about 85 miles, mostly hwy and netted 23.7 MPG!

If you stay in DFM mode you can hyper-mile some serious mileage out of these big trucks. I was driving on backcountry roads for almost 2 hrs for work the other day and even though the roads were really hilly I averaged almost 22.5 MPG as I was at or below 65 MPH the whole time and most often in DFM mode.

I know they say if you're buying a big SUV you shouldn't care about the gas mileage but I'm not one of those. I would be quite interested to know what our courageous buyers are seeing especially on the 5.3L. Trips, combined city highway, from the DIC or hand calculated all will be appreciated. How fast you drive, load of vehicle, etc. the more info the better.

36 psi in door panel. I always ran 2 psi higher. It’s not the 5k avg.
snapshot in time 50 mile average. All highway

Still is a nice average. Were the conditions neutral or advantageous?

What type of suspension do you have? Are you normally critical of ride?

Sorry for sounding like an inquisitor I'm just trying to get a baseline for expectations.

Road trip home after purchase of 526 miles averaged 18.2
Couple trips to my cabin and back, 16.6
Daily driver 50/50 city/hwy 14.7

Thats a bit bigger of a hit to the fuel mileage than I wanted. But it is 1000 lbs heavier, and no highway gears. So I am good with it.

5.3 here.
Haven't driven too much on the hwy but got about 15-16 on the hwy about a week ago. Currently, been doing only city driving and averaging about 14-14.5 mpg. Price round me for gas is 4.05 for mid. That's the lowest I've seen in the last few wks.

For no real reason, in the Midwest fuel jumped at least .25 $.30 a gallon in the last few days. RUL is now 3.15-3.20. PUL 3.95…
Thankfully, Diesel still 3.09…..

I’d be highly skeptical of any V8 owner saying they regularly got in the 20’s
totally spot on above
if you aren't hyper mile'ing (55mph or less, mileage tires, empty truck and a focus'd driver) you aren't getting 20's by the tank in a full sized v8 4x4 from GM

in the diesel; totally different animal

I often average over 22mpg highway at 65mph. A recent 170 mile round trip averaged 21mpg counting a city bypass route with umpteen traffic lights. Admittedly I have a light foot and coast into red lights.

21 Yukon XL 5.3 SLT. Most of the time I average 14-15 mpg around town. Much of my daily driving is short trips on heavily congested Northern Virginia.

On a recent trip from Virginia to Michigan I was very happy to exceed the epa rating. The average was 21.3 westbound and then 23.7 eastbound. Makes sense because wind is usually coming from the east. Cruise control at about 75 most of the way both directions
