High mileage Fluid Change?

Smells normal, still red but a little dark. I’m not sure what I’m looking for but it looked free of debris. One spec that I saw may have been dirt that I transferred .
I’ll look again in the bright sun tomorrow. Hints on what the bad crud looks like?

That looks pretty good but another sample with more light would be better. The spot shows a hint of brown and red. The red would be bright if it was fresh or close to fresh. You said 170k with little records, so now it is a call to make. If it was mine, I would do it, after seeing another sample tomorrow. But hell, I like spending other people's money.

My preferred method is to either drop the pan or use a mityvac to suck fluid out through the dipstick. Not a fan of taking off a cooler line and starting the car. It's apt to run the pump dry. And these units rely on the fluid return path - it's not a direct return to pan.

If you drop the pan, order up a second magnet and toss it in there. TSB for it. No glue or anything else, it just sticks to the pan and stays there because of the mind boggling mystery that is electromagnetic forces

Magnets are a wonderful thing. Oil pan drain plug, diff plugs when can and trans pans. They can be eye opening.

5w-30 full synthetic with AC Delco filter.

Amazon has delco filter for like $3.74 plus a $1.50 rebate...

Yea, that is where I get them and I use the Amazon Basics synthetic oil.

What motor oil weight are you guys using on y'alls suvs?

Did my first oil change bank in Nov and used the factory rec'd 5W-30. Im a dino-oil guy.
